There is a kind of grief our children carry that often goes unnamed.
In many communities, resources for grief exist. But too often, culturally grounded spaces where EVERY child feels seen, understood, and reflected… are limited.
Our children are navigating:
• The death of a parent, grandparent, or sibling
• A parent who is incarcerated
• Separation due to substance use
• Sudden life changes that feel confusing and overwhelming
And at ages 7–12, grief doesn’t always look like tears.
It can look like:
• Anger or fighting
• Withdrawal or silence
• Academic decline
• Acting “too grown”
• Taking on adult responsibilities
• Anxiety, stomachaches, or sleep struggles
• Humor that hides hurt
Sometimes what we call “behavior problems” is actually unprocessed loss.
That is why Ebony Grace Wellness is launching Camp Rise! A therapeutic grief support camp for children ages 7–12, in collaboration with the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.
April 2–7, 2026
📍 UMES Campus
Ages 7–12
Licensed clinical oversight
Camp Rise is intentionally designed with our community in mind.
Children will experience:
• Structured grief group sessions
• Individual therapeutic check-ins
• Art, storytelling, and movement
• Recreational activities
• A safe, culturally responsive environment
We believe grief should not be carried in silence. We believe children deserve language for what they feel. We believe healing spaces should reflect the children they serve.
We are now seeking community referrals.
If you are a parent, caregiver, educator, faith leader, or advocate and know a child who may benefit, we invite you to connect.
