August 🤍 mantra: slow it way down. Plenty of months during the year to bolt, this month is not it. Rejoice in the daily doings, listen for the sounds of summer, smell the tomatoes, put your feet in cool water, hug your loved ones, there is so much goodness around, slow down to notice.

Open to all levels

Our hips hold us up. The attachment of our legs to our pelvis requires an amazing interaction of stability and mobility so we can move quickly, slowly, in any direction at a moment’s notice. Tight or weak hips don’t let us do that - we experience a loss of balance, a tweak in the knees, ankle problems, sciatica, or lower back issues, bursitis, tight hamstrings, and tight quads. Over time we may grow bunions, or have shallow breath patterns, tension in the neck, shoulder and jaw, emotional imbalance as well as issues with the vital organs in the abdominal cavity.

As essential as cleaning our teeth, we have to practice structural hygiene in our hips. The 18+ muscles involved in keeping your legs attached to your body need a balance of strength and flexibility. When we’re strong and balanced in the hips, some of the issues listed above often resolve themselves. Iyengar Yoga meets you where your hips are. Using a combination of verbal actions, props and different poses we will find space in our hips.
