Watching an area of showers and storms near the Leeward Islands as the National Hurricane Center has outlooked this area with a 50% chance of a tropical system forming in the next 7 days. I bring this up because the models do try to bring this storm close to us (particularly the Euro) into early next week.

The movement of this storm will be dependent of the high that comes in behind the cold front for Thursday into Friday and the other possible storm that forms behind this one in the Atlantic. I have been on the optimistic side of things with the forecast for the weekend and clear the front and the high comes into the area. This would keep the impacts of that storm to a minimum for us and keep it either to our south with rain chances for the middle of next week....or just grazing the Carolina coast and being pulled and pushed back out to sea.

I just wanted to bring you the transparency and say that the models have been all over the place with this setup the last couple of days and will be all over the place until this storm really forms over the next few days. I will be watching it and if the forecast shifts one way or the other...you will know. We are in the wait and see phase for this storm.

The National Hurricane Center is issuing advisories on Hurricane Gabrielle, located over the central subtropical Atlantic a few hundred miles southeast of Bermuda. Hurricanes.gov/

Central Tropical Atlantic:
Shower and thunderstorm activity associated with a tropical wave located about midway between the Lesser Antilles and the Cabo Verde Islands has increased since yesterday. Environmental conditions are forecast to become more favorable for development by tomorrow, and a tropical depression is likely to form by the middle to latter part of this week while while the system moves west-northwestward to northwestward across the central Atlantic. It has a low (20 percent) chance of formation in 48 hours and a high (70 percent) chance in the next 7 days.

East of the Leeward Islands:
A tropical wave located about 400 miles east of the Leeward Islands continues to produce disorganized showers and thunderstorms. Environmental conditions appear marginally conducive for slow development over the next few days as the wave moves quickly westward to west-northwestward at 15 to 20 mph. By the latter part of this week, the system is expected to slow down and turn more
northwestward, and a tropical depression could form late this week when the system is over the southwestern Atlantic Ocean or near the Bahamas. Regardless of development, gusty winds and showers are expected to affect portions of the Leeward Islands late tonight and Tuesday. It has a low (10 percent) chance of formation in 48 hours and a medium (40 percent) chance in the next 7 days.
