I want to address a question I know some people may have: “Why was your personal number given out in the first place?”
Early on, I shared my number because I never wanted a patient to feel ignored—especially in moments of distress or urgency. Mental health doesn’t operate on a perfect schedule, and my intention was always rooted in care, accessibility, and safety.
As the practice has grown, I’ve learned an important lesson: what once worked is no longer sustainable. Being constantly available on my personal phone has begun to impact my ability to rest, recharge, and be present for my family—and ultimately, that affects the quality of care I can provide.
This shift is not about being less available. It’s about being appropriately available. Having communication go through the office and patient portal allows messages to be tracked, prioritized, and responded to safely and consistently. I do check portal messages regularly, even when I’m away from the office, and urgent concerns are addressed appropriately.
Growth requires adjustment. Boundaries allow longevity. I appreciate your understanding as I continue to evolve in a way that supports both my patients and my family.
Thank you for respecting this change.
