What a day! Although chaotic and cold, yesterday proved to be extremely successful. We are beyond grateful for the amazing support our community showed our chapter by ordering from our members. These kids worked hard yesterday unloading, sorting, and packing orders. Salisbury should be proud of the seeds they’ve sown and the way they continue to cultivate the growth of these young leaders.

🎀'Tis the season! The FFA Christmas Party is next Monday! 🎀

There will be food, a hot chocolate bar, and a white elephant gift exchange! Members who attend need to bring a gift under $5 to participate. 🎄❄️

Due to availability, we will be moving the time back to 5:15 for ham curing next Tuesday. Members have until 3:00 today to fill out the interest form.

FFA Ham Curing Sign-Up Is Now Open

It’s time for one of our favorite FFA traditions, ham curing. We will be curing hams on December 16th after school. Seasonings will be provided, but members are responsible for purchasing their ham. We will order the hams, but payment must be made on or before December 16. Checks for payment can be made to Salisbury FFA Chapter.

Any members interested in participating must fill out the form posted in Google Classroom by Monday, December 8, so we can get your ham ordered.

Exact prices for the hams will be announced closer to time, but last year they were around $65 so members can plan accordingly.

Ham curing is a hands-on opportunity to learn about meat science and preservation. It’s also a great experience and a way to show at the county fair if you don’t have livestock.

On Wednesday, November 12, Mariska Bixenman (12), Nicole Newton (11), and Olivia Henke (10) competed in the Area Fall Public Speaking Contest in Centralia. Mariska gave a speech on Missouri Farm Bureau, Nicole on Missouri Young Farmers and Farm Wives, and Olivia on the Missouri Cattlemen’s Association. Mariska placed 2nd and advanced to Districts, while Nicole placed 5th and Olivia placed 6th. Mariska did not move on past Districts, but we are very proud of how well all three represented our chapter!

Public speaking is a fantastic way to advocate for important issues in agriculture and build leadership skills. If any other members are interested in giving it a try, there will be another opportunity to participate in public speaking during the Spring LDEs!

On November 8, the Salisbury FFA Chapter gathered at the fairgrounds for its annual Barnwarming, celebrating this year’s Cowpoke theme with a night of community, fun, and service. Even with the cold weather, members stayed warm around a large bonfire where students roasted marshmallows and cooked hotdogs. The night also included games such as the apple-cider chugging contest, which brought plenty of laughs. Instead of a traditional entry fee, attendees donated canned goods to support the local food bank, which has recently been experiencing shortages due to the government shutdown. We are incredibly proud of how many students showed up with donations and helped support such a meaningful cause for our community. We would like to send a huge thank-you to the Salisbury Park Board for allowing us to host this event at the fair barn and for supporting our chapter’s activities. 💙
