Healing With Psychedelic Medicine and Altered States of Consciousness I am here to allow you to be you. www.christiansnuffer.com

I have come to recognize that to heal, we must have permission to be our unfiltered and unadulterated selves. To see you, hear you, love you, and relate with you. I will hold space with you, co-regulating and co-relating so that you can embrace your humanity in an environment filled with love and acceptance. Nothing is too ugly, traumatic, or uncomfortable to love. We can do this together and accept who you are to your fullest. In addition to cultivating love and acceptance, I believe in the power of non-ordinary states of consciousness and psychedelic medicine. I trust wholeheartedly in the healing potential of mystical and spiritual experiences, and I try to cultivate reverence for the experiences unexplained by materialistic science. I have training and expertise to help contextualize problems within the prevailing paradigm of diagnoses and treatments, yet I still allow for alternative modes of healing. This paradigm has persisted for too long and pathologized too many people. I work to undo that pathologization and embrace the wonder in the human experience.

A client asked me yesterday how to better deal with the seasons of life.

In his case, it was the seasonal demands of his job and the necessity to work 80+ hours a week for certain periods of the year.

His question reminded me of the importance of ceremony and ritual.

I responded by asking him how he marked beginnings and endings? Do you know when the season began? Do you know when it ends? If so, how?

If you don’t know when it starts and finishes, are you conscious of how energy leaks out and bleeds into other areas of your life?

There is a reason that psychedelic medicine is facilitated in a ceremonial way rich with ritual. It contains the experience; it keeps the energy tight. It ensures that there is no leakage or waste.

Our lives can be the same. You will be shocked by how much cleaner your life feels when you incorporate ritual when your life becomes one long-lived intentional ceremony.

I’m talking about simple things. Like lighting a candle when you get home from work. Burning some sage before you sit down to have a beer. Take three deep breaths before turning on the TV.

Something! Anything! To mark the end of one thing and the beginning of the next.

This practice also requires discipline, and discipline is what will get you up the mountain. Not motivation, not sprints, not high-caliber output. Just simple, repeated steps.

And before long, your life begins to take on a new meaning. You begin to honor yourself for the things you do. You begin to feel important.

Because guess what? You are important. Life is a ceremony - live into it.

I have always been an idealist, and I know that in practicality, much of what I believe is not always adherable. But I don't think this is an excuse not to try.

I work with psychedelic medicine because when used appropriately, I believe at their basest essence, they are the tool that will provide the most significant number of "awakening" experiences for the largest number of people.

Our systems are fundamentally flawed. Our religions are corrupted, our spirituality is shallow, and this will lead us to swim upstream continually. We need a complete overhaul of ourselves and the structures that govern our lives. We are not separate from anyone or anything. The platitude, "we are all one," is trite, I know. But it is nonetheless true.

The words posted above, written by Stan Grof, speak succinctly to these problems. I want to expose people to these truths. Yes - psychedelics have therapeutic value, and I will use them in that capacity because my chosen role in this phase of my life is a therapist. But ultimately, I am so much more interested in expanding people's consciousness than making up for perceived mental health deficits.

If you are reading this, I implore you to consider your relationship to consciousness seriously. You are so much more than you think you are. And if enough people wake up and realize the power they hold, we can shift the course of the world.

I will be here in my tiny corner of the world, helping as many people as possible, and I trust that those relationships will branch out, creating a ripple of change that I will never be able to define. Carve out your corner and start making a difference.

Peace & love ya'll.

"The Psychedelic Gospels: The Secret History of Hallucinogens in Christianity" is a fascinating book by Jerry and Julia Brown. The book's first half provides a compelling argument for the use of psychedelic substances in early Christian practices, such as the consumption of the Kykeon in the Eleusinian Mysteries and the possible role of entheogens in the visions of St. Paul and the Book of Revelation.

One of the most compelling stories in the book's first half is the account of Maria Sabina, a Mazatec shaman who used psilocybin mushrooms in her healing ceremonies. Sabina's encounter with the Western world, specifically with the ethnomycologist R. Gordon Wasson, is a tragic tale that sheds light on the clash of cultures and the ethical dilemmas involved in using entheogens. I think anyone practicing with psilocybin is obligated to understand her story, as she is a lineage holder of this medicine.

The book's second half deviates from the authors' thesis. It becomes filled with non-sequiturs and tangential anecdotes that do not contribute to the overall narrative. The authors lose focus, and their arguments become muddled and less convincing.

While "The Psychedelic Gospels" is a valuable introductory text on the subject of entheogens in early Christianity, there are more in-depth and well-researched works on this topic, such as "Soma: Divine Mushroom of Immortality" by R. Gordon Wasson, "The Sacred Mushroom and the Cross" by John M. Allegro.

Overall, "The Psychedelic Gospels" is an accessible and engaging introduction to a complex and intriguing topic. Still, readers should be encouraged to seek additional sources for a more thorough understanding of entheogens' history and cultural significance in Christianity.

I had to take a little break from psychedelic books (though this work has implications for the psychedelic process) and give a shout-out to this book! It has been a while since a book so thoroughly blew my mind. I have been aware of Jung's work for some time now, but I had no idea how in-depth, expansive, and, quite frankly, genius it is.

This book was the perfect introduction to his life's work. I was riveted as I read about his experience growing up, his relationship with religion, his never-ending questioning and exploration, and his integrity in exploring the depths of his soul. I have not come across anyone as capable of introspection as this man.

I particularly enjoyed the chapters on his home, referred to as The Tower, Sigmund Freud, his travels, and the appendix filled with letters he wrote and exchanged with friends and loved ones.

This is a great place to start for anyone even remotely interested in Jung. It reads like a story and has a sense of linear progression without diving too deep into the complexity of his work. This opened a door for me, and sparked more purchases of his writing as I continue to familiarize myself with the depths of Jungian work!

Today was my last day practicing out of I went to the office a little early so I could meditate in the container that is my office. As I meditated on the 14 months I spent here, I began seeing an image of hands. I reflected on the hands that built the building. The hands that converted the space before into Terra. I saw friends who came and painted the walls sharing laughs and pouring so much love and effort into this space.

The vision shifted, and I began to see the hands of the people who have shaped me. My parents, my family. My baseball coaches in high school, Barry Harrington & Craig Franco. My coaches in college, Boomer & Skip Walker. The college professors who impacted me most, Theresa Martinez & Tonya Elliott. My supervisors in Hawaii, Clem Wilson, Mike McGee & Jody St. Joseph. Followed by more mentors in Alaska, Holly Owens-Padilla, Tim Barker & Rhianna Sterk. My first clinical supervisor Greg Garrick followed by . And finally, to the people helping to mentor and guide me today, Annette Ephroni, and my partner,

It feels important to directly name these people as they are my lineage holders. They are the people who guide me to create the space where I can hold clients in my hands. Containing their emotions, energies, hardships, success, joys, & sadness. I would not be here without these people.

Finally, I reflected on the hands that birthed Terra into existence And I felt immense gratitude for their efforts. Thank you for creating the container for my growth and development this last year.

And a HUGE thank you to Amanda for having the vision and confidence to take Terra into its next iteration. You are an incredible boss, practitioner, landlord, friend, and mentor!

Thank you to the rest of the Terra family. Thank you for all the love, support, laughs, collaborations, and growth you provided.

This feels like a significant closing of a chapter. It is time to spread the wings further and see what can grow from my passion for this work.

I am really excited to be offering another 6-week medicine integration series at the Local Co-Op with Sunnè East.

This is our Spring series, and I can not think of a better way to step into the new season than to connect with like-minded individuals seeking to integrate their medicine experiences further!

I wrote the curriculum for this series based on the work of Bill Plotkin and his book Nature and the Human Soul. We will travel the cycle of life together, exploring the archetypes and symbols associated with each quadrant of circle.

If you are interested in this offering, please reach out! And please share with anyone who may be a fit. We have limited scholarships available awarded on a first come, first served basis.

Please reach out if you have any questions!

How many beautiful trees and birdsongs are we missing by walking around focused on how we look?

How many moments of connection, spontaneity, joy, and excitement are we missing because we are self-conscious about what others would think?

Remove your earplugs. Be yourself, and If it isn't safe to be you around your people, get curious about what that means.

This quote by Carl Rogers has taken on new meaning as I study Buddhism.

In a session yesterday, a client was struggling to accept his reality. He was unwilling to acknowledge how much he hurt.

I asked him to imagine himself as a little child and relate to that child's pain. Immediately he began to cry.

This was a moment of acceptance, which led to feeling, which led to the discharge of emotions and energy, and after that discharge, there is now space to heal and change.

The space for change was created by accepting his pain.

I invite you to continue practicing radical acceptance. Own your experience and face it honestly. On the other side is spaciousness and fertile ground for transformation.

Great Spirit, the Universe, God, whatever you want to call it, is here to comfort and to disturb.

Life is a process of ebbs and flows, trials and tribulations, wins and losses, successes and failures, joy and despair.

Our job is to get comfortable with these cycles - to find the Middle Way.

Jack Kornfield tells us, “ The middle way describes the middle ground between attachment and aversion, between being and non-being, between form and emptiness, between free will and determinism. The more we dive into the middle way, the more deeply we come to rest between the play of opposites.”

When we are comfortable, we will be disturbed; when we are disturbed, we can find comfort. Embrace the cycles, open yourself to the experience, and find the middle.

Scenes from Ceremony

“I am an infinite being, having a human experience.

Humbly learning from the limitations of this body.

I love everyone, all are divine beings.

I am here to help, I am here to amplify goodness.

I am present. I am joyful.

I acknowledge life as a gift, and share this gift with others.”

About Me

My name is Christian Snuffer, and I am a Youth Mentor in the Salt Lake Valley area. I was born and raised in Sandy, Utah, and I will forever be grateful to call the Wasatch Front my home. I have been all over the country, pursuing my passion for behavioral health, and I am excited to offer these passions in the form of mentorship. I am a very outdoorsy person; I love hiking, climbing, biking, exercising, and just moving my body in general. I am working my way through graduate school and biding time until I can open my own private practice as a mental health counselor. But that is still a year or two out, so right now, I am focusing on mentoring young men who need the support.

I choose to focus on working with adolescent boys because that is where my strengths of connection and patience lie. I can be very helpful in a focused and limited time. And I think adolescents are pretty cool and interesting these days.
