This warms my birthworker heart. Having had unmedicated births myself, the respect I have for Mary for birthing in a barn is insurmountable.

Merry Christmas, everyone ❤️

✨FLESH✨Jesus’ birth was no Insta-perfect manger scene with glowing orbs.😇 The most iconic birth in history took place in stinky, un-sanitized manger among farm animals. (Have you ever smelled the stench of a barn filled with livestock? Imagine birthing there!🤢)

What a birth story! The King of the Universe 👑 came to Earth and put on FLESH to live among us.

“The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the one and only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.” -John 1:14

I wonder, did Mary experience pain? Did she get scared and ask how long it would take? I don’t know, but, like most unmedicated births, it was probably messy, bloody, vulnerable and intense.🩸

Our modern society doesn’t like dirty and unfiltered. In fact, we CENSOR birth and death. It’s too uncomfortable for our virgin eyes, perhaps.🙈

We like to clean up birth, numb the intense feelings with drugs, cover up baby and mom (esp in postpartum), and make it pretty, shiny and clean.🧼

We censor manger scenes & we censor modern motherhood.🚫

But birth is anything but clean and dignified!
✨Birth is the breaking of waters,
✨The gushing of fluids,
✨Moans too deep for words,
✨Expulsion of a placenta,
✨Blood running down the leg,
✨Skin-to-bloody-vernix-coated-skin.

🐂Among stalls intended for animals, the King of kings was born to a 16 year old girl. His flesh felt cold air, his belly felt hunger and his body felt pain. He was comforted by the gentle touch of his mother and fed by the nourishment of her breastmilk.

In life and death, He demonstrated what pure love looks like: vulnerable and unashamed.❤️

Jesus left this world the same way he came into it, naked and exposed.

Flesh makes us human. It is not a curse. It is the greatest privilege of our existence and it’s one the angels look down upon with envy.

🎄This Christmas, may you experience Jesus’ outrageous love.

🙏May you embrace motherhood, like Mary did, it all its undignified, sacrificial, messy glory.

“We love because He first loved us.” -John 4:19

I know I've said this too many times to count but...

I LOVE what I do! 🤰🏼

Helping Mothers bring their babies into this world is something I will never take for granted, and it's truly been an amazing year for births.

My favorite ✨️power pose✨️had this strong Mama work her sweet girl down the pelvis, and shortly after this position, she entered transitional labor to deliver her baby completed unmedicated. So PROUD!

Congratulations to my wonderful client, Sydney, on the birth of little miss Rosie this evening, and I am so grateful to have been a part of your birth! 💗

✨Walcher's Position✨

The Walcher's position is an engagement technique that allows contractions to help a baby who is higher up engage into the pelvis.
Engagement is when the baby settles into the pelvis. 1st babies will usually engage by 38 weeks and any subsequent babies will usually engage before or during early labor. Your baby has to get into the pelvis before it can go through the pelvis.
Walcher's position can be used when labor has already begun but strong, frequent contractions aren't helping the baby move down and engage. It opens the brim of the pelvis from front to back and opens the p***c bone away from the spine. This makes more room for the baby to engage.

I’d love to know if you have or if you’ve thought about having your children around during labour and birth? For me I couldn’t quite switch off with my daughter around to fully get into the zone with my second labour. It wasn’t until I knew she was safe with my mum that the waves really started to build in intensity. view all comments

New things are coming to Sacred Creation Birth...✨️

As some of you know by now, I'm fully deaf in the right ear and wear a hearing aide to transfer all audio input to my left (hearing) ear. Though I am grateful I have hearing in one of my ears, I can't help but feel for those who have limited to no hearing in either/both ears, leaving them completely deaf. As a birthworker, I have met many people from many diversities in life, but there is one community I see that is lacking birthworking professionals such as Doulas and Midwives: the deaf or hard-of-hearing community.

So with the above being said, I'm starting on a new venture to expand my practices as a Doula and Student Midwife by beginning a full certification course in American Sign Language (ASL) to gain fluency in opening my birthing practice to those who need such services from someone who is ASL qualified! I am hoping to complete this certification by the end of this year so that as of January 2023 I can open my birthwork clientele in the Deaf community. Looking forward to this new journey! 🤟🏼

💦During labor, your baby's body releases chemicals to help their lungs push out the fluid.

💦The pressure of the birth canal on your baby's chest also releases fluid from their lungs.

💦After birth, your baby's cough, as well as air filling their lungs,  should expel the remaining amniotic fluid.

Happy Birthday to my #1 birth supporter, provider, and husband, Brady!

So grateful to have such an incredible man by my side, to be there as my best friend and love of my life, as well as an impeccable father to our four littles! Brady is unbelievably selfless and does all he can for myself and the kids between working overtime, sacrificing sleep, and being a fantastic provider both temporally and emotionally to us all. Brady is beyond dedicated to working on his personal goals to better himself and our family, and he inspires me each and every day to be the best version of myself. Brady has supported me through my birthwork as a doula, lactation consultant, childbirth educator, and now as I venture on a path of gaining my Bachelors in Midwifery, and I am beyond grateful for him and all the encouragement he gives me. Thank you for all that you do, sweetheart, and...

Happy Birthday!

💉 STERILE WATER INJECTIONS 💉

Approximately 33% of women will experience back pain during labour (often referred to as ‘back labour’). Women who experience this will often report its intensity to be quite high that offers no relief in between surges.
Sterile water injections (SWI) are a non-pharmacological method of pain relief that can be offered in the setting of severe back pain during labour.
Below is some more info + the latest research on it’s effects.

💉 What is it – sterile water

💉 How is it administered – in very small amounts (.1 to .2ml) the sterile water is injected into the lower segment of your back (rhombus of Michaelis in the sacral area) into four key locations underneath the skin. Due to the locations, if you choose this method of pain relief you will likely experience an intense but brief stinging sensation that will wear off. The injections are delivered during a surge by two midwives each injecting a site at the same time.

Advantages
🔹️ Immediate relief
🔹️ No effect on mother or baby
🔹️ Allows you to remain mobile during labour
🔹️ Can be repeated as often as you need
🔹️ No adverse effects on labour

Disadvantages
🔹️ May not provide relief from the back pain
🔹️ The intensity of the injection may feel too much
🔹️ Will not take away your surge pain

Does it work?
In studies published on the use of SWI overall many women reported getting relief from the injections as effective providing anywhere from 30mins - 2 hours of back pain relief. A small percentage did not feel any relief. Women also reported satisfaction during first stage labour.

What researchers believe with SWI is the administration that painfully stimulates the lower back causes the brain to release endorphins (your body’s natural pain relief) that change the perception on the labour pain experienced at the time.
No adverse events have been reported apart from pain with the injection.

The strongest muscle in the human body? The Uterus (Midwives unanimously “Duh”)

“If you can see her belly tighten while standing in the doorway, she’s probabaly in active labor….” said a midwife to me once. It’s kinda funny looking at this image and imagining someone in the doorway confirming she’s in active labor .
