We wanted to share this excellent video about sanitizing your groceries from Dr. Jeffrey Van Wingen out of Michigan. What a brilliant comment...paraphrasing: "imagine that your groceries are covered with glitter, and you want to bring them into your house without having glitter on your hands, your groceries or your face." Thank you doctor, very well done.

A couple of very important points.

1.) If you are thinking about buying something, don't pick it up unless you intend to buy it! Touching items and then putting them back is exactly the reason this video exists.
- When you're going for produce and want to assess the items, take a plastic produce bag and insert your hand into the outside to cover your hand, using the bag as a barrier like you're picking up your dog's business. Pick up the item, inspect the item, and leave it in the bag if it suits you.

2.) If you're in the store touching things, don't use your phone. If you must call someone or use your phone, then be prepared to wash your hands as soon as you're done with your phone, and then to sanitize your phone with a disinfecting wipe when you leave the store, or when you get home.

3.) CDC says any disinfectant is acceptable for cleaning products. Our addition: Make sure that the product gets wet with disinfectant, and cover all surfaces.

4.) There are varying reports of how long COVID can live on surfaces. Plastic and metal seem to have the longest time that the virus stays active. If you keep the groceries quarantined for 3 days, this goes a long way to ensuring viruses are not active. However, it is not a guarantee, and disinfecting groceries is still an excellent choice even if you've kept your stuff in the garage for 3 days.

5.) If you made a mistake, don't stress! There is still a very low incidence of reports of spread from "fomites," or objects that carry the virus that are not living.

The more that you can follow safety protocols like those presented in this video, the better you protect your family from Coronavirus.

Stay safe out there!
