It's day 5 of my 100 Day Active Hang Challenge. I'm experimenting with what consistently hanging my bodyweight until failure will do. I had no idea how much of a mental fortitude test this would be! A few years ago I lost the two bottom halves of my lungs to a blood clotting disorder that almost killed me and even after lots of therapy and rehabilitation, I'm still experiencing a fight or flight response whenever I raise my arms over my head. It's like my brain goes "oh hey, more room to breathe! Stretch those lungs!" Then when they literally can't expand because 50% of my lung tissue died due to infarction (lack of blood supply), it sets off a red alert warning in my nervous system telling my heartrate to spike and my breathing rate to increase. Most of what I'm doing on the bar is trying to calm myself down and convince my nervous system that I'm not actually dying, however painful this might be.
All in all, I'm confident that if I stay consistent in this, I might see some changes in that sympathetic nervous system response as well as my form and time hanging!
