Utah Independent Living Center celebrates the work of Brad Lomax. He was an essential part of the disability rights movement. He was a member of the Black Panther Party and founded the East Oakland Center for Independent Living which provided support to Black individuals with disabilities. He is especially remembered for his vital role in the 1977 - 504 sit ins, where the Black Panther Party supplied food and support to the disability protesters. Many people share that with this support, the 504 sit ins would have likely failed.

Join UILC in celebrating Black History Month and the work of Brad Lomax as with his work many of us have benefited greatly from the 504 plan within our education, healthcare and workplace.
