SCPTR suffered an insurmountable loss with the passing of Dr. Parth Gandhi on May 12, 2023. Parth cared deeply for his work and those around him. As the founder, lead instructor and sole clinician of SCPTR, he made it his life's mission to allay human suffering through education, training, and therapy--and in so doing he effected a tangible positive difference in the lives of countless patients, friends, students, and colleagues. His expertise, diligent work, compassion, and uniquely positive presence are irreplaceable, and without Parth at the helm, SCPTR unfortunately can no longer continue in its mission. Parth was, without hyperbole, the very soul of SCPTR. The board expresses deepest sorrow and sympathy to all affected by this tragic loss, and encourages those needing resources to reach out to julie@scptr.org, specifically if you are enrolled in June sessions or would like memorial information. If you or someone you know is struggling with mental illness or thoughts of su***de, please know help is available. We urge you to reach out to a mental health professional, a trusted friend or family member, or to call the National Su***de Prevention Lifeline at 9-8-8.

Psychedelics in Utah

Hey Salt Lake City,
We need full Decriminalization. There is a Task Force that is making recommendations to the state legislature. But we need Salt Lake City Council to take up the banner to decriminalize plant medicines. Science and Research clearly show that Psychedelic Plant medicines are powerful healing tools for mental health issues like depression, addiction and trauma and have saved many people from su***de. They are also considered sacrament by many religious communities and use is protected by the Religious Freedoms Act.

HAZEL PARK, Mich.
City council passed a resolution on Tuesday that decriminalizes psychedelic plants and fungi, including magic mushrooms.

The decriminalization means the investigation of adults who plant, cultivate, purchase, transport, distribute or possess entheogenic plants is the lowest law enforcement priority for the City of Hazel Park.

City resources will not be used in any investigation, detention, arrest or prosecution arising out of alleged violations of state and federal law regarding the use of those plants. That does not rule out the potential for a state or federal investigation.

“We need to eliminate the stigma around entheogenic plants and acknowledge them for what they are – legitimate medicinal and therapeutic substances that have improved countless lives,” said Hazel Park City Councilmember Luke Londo, who introduced the resolution. “As a proponent and occasional consumer, it’s critical that we normalize these natural treatments that allow people to overcome addiction, improve their mental health and embrace their religion and spirituality.”

Psilocybin- Why did Fungi create a metabolite that works so perfectly with human neuroanatomy but has no utility for itself?

Throughout our history, human beings have demonstrated a powerful and committed love of tinkering with our brain chemistry. We get drunk on the waste of sugar-eating bacteria, smoke the leaves of garden-variety weeds, and munch on mushrooms whose chemicals give us such a strange experience we have to call it magic. We’ve been doing this for thousands and thousands of years, too: Cave paintings of certain mushroom species suggested that our ancestors liked to turn on, tune in, and drop out as well.

But the very fact that magic mushrooms exist and that their main psychoactive ingredient—psilocybin—can provide such a powerful experience is odd. Nearly all of the qualities of the various species of life on Earth have some kind of functionality. Deer don’t have antlers because they’re pretty; they’re there for mating displays. Cheetahs don’t run fast because they’re big fans of cardio exercise; its their strategy for catching prey. Fruits purpose is to feed the seed. Why do Magic mushrooms produce Psilocybin?

Psilocybin is a secondary metabolite, meaning it’s an organic compound not involved in the growth, development, or reproduction of the fungi itself. Necessarily, its expensive to produce secondary metabolites, and psilocybin in particular is a complicated molecule to make. So, it’s extremely weird that it’s popped up in disparate species of fungi. Think about that. Psilocybin has no functional purpose to the mushroom.

So then why didn’t evolution get rid of it?
Think outside the box…. Way outside the box. What do you really think?

My thoughts- mycelium is an intelligence that we know very little about, but it wants to influence our growth and development. Some would even say that it is Mother Earth or Pachamama that is using fungi to speak and teach.

New research examines why some fungi evolve psychedelic properties. Psychedelic compounds found in ‘magic mushrooms’ are increasingly being recognized for their potential to treat important mental health conditions. These include depression, anxiety, compulsive disorders, and addiction. Psilocyb

Full Event Description:

International musician, producer, and wellness leader East Forest (“Music For Mushrooms”, “Ram Dass”) will be performing an exclusive Ceremony Concert in Salt Lake City, UT

The East Forest Ceremony is a multi-level experience where concert meets ritual, merging live music and guided meditation—including songs from the East Forest collaborative album ‘RAM DASS’. Performed in the round with participants sitting or lying down, East Forest Ceremony is an intersection between technology, nature and the human experience—with a brain-body approach aimed towards a non-religious yet deeply spiritual journey—a methodology grounded as much in science as in ritual and ceremony. We will co-create a participatory sacred space for release and renewal while enjoying an immersive musical concert—mixing traditional East Forest songs with deep ambient soundscapes. The music and gentle verbal guidance by East Forest will guide you on an inner journey toward the wellspring of wisdom within. Through stillness and tuning into your own self-knowing, you will leave with feelings of tranquility, clarity and empowerment.

This Salt Lake City-based event will be held "in the round" at a thoughtfully selected large-scale professional indoor venue with audience members radiating outward from the center stage in a beautiful mandala of yoga mats provided by local-SLC mat manufacturer and community partner, Hugger Mugger.

Due to the layout of this event, tickets will be limited and issued on a first-come-first-serve basis.

First ever magic mushroom dispensary now open in Toronto.

"As Canada slowly enters the era of retail magic mushrooms, Toronto is already ahead of the game. Shroomyz is Toronto’s first magic mushroom dispensary and the second in the province, the company boasts on their website. A Shroomyz in Ottawa opened in May of this year. Located at 488 Queen Street West, Shroomyz is akin to any cannabis store you’d find in the city. Windows are taped off for privacy and customers need to buzz in to enter and start shopping.

The store supplies everything from dried psilocybin and microdose capsules to mushroom chocolates and mushroom tea”

Ketamine Therapy Study
The largest peer-reviewed study of ketamine therapy will be published in the Journal of Affective Disorders and it has some GROUNDBREAKING results:

89% of the participants reported improvement in their depression or anxiety symptoms.
Over 30% achieved remission (or virtually no symptoms) after 4 sessions.
63% of participants experienced a greater than 50% reduction in symptoms.
These results were stronger than those seen in studies of traditional treatments, such as antidepressants, talk therapy, social support.
