As a program of the Salt Lake Chamber Foundation, Utah Community Builders recognizes an organization each month that is making a meaningful impact in the community, and Alliance House is honored to be chosen. Alliance House is redefining mental-health support in Utah through a “clubhouse” model where members work side-by-side with staff to run daily operations, fostering dignity, purpose, and belonging. Our unique approach has also made it a training site for clubhouses from around the world.

We’re excited to celebrate our member Art as he steps into his first Transitional Employment (TE) position at Goodwill! This is a new TE for Alliance House at a Goodwill location in West Jordan and Art will be the first to fill this position. Although he’s worked in the past, it had been some time due to the challenges of his disability. When the opportunity for TE came up, Art saw it as a refreshing and supportive way to re-enter the workforce and he jumped in with motivation and confidence.

Art shares that seeing many other Clubhouse members succeed in their TE roles inspired him to give it a try. He’s already enjoying the structure of the job, especially the therapeutic rhythm of repetitive tasks and the clear production goals his team works toward together.

Congratulations Art for taking this step and embracing the journey ahead. Please join us in wishing him all the best as he grows in his new role!

We’re thrilled to announce that a member and staff from Alliance House, Nick and Margaret, are in Australia to take part in International Clubhouse Training at Stepping Stone Clubhouse. Next week, Associate Director Rebecca will be joining them for the second week of training as support.

This exciting opportunity will allow our team to connect with Clubhouse colleagues from around the world, share best practices, and bring back fresh ideas to strengthen our community. By learning alongside other Clubhouses, we continue to grow our commitment to recovery, inclusion, and the power of meaningful work and relationships.

When Alliance House member Bluejay first connected with the Clubhouse, she was experiencing homelessness and searching for stability and belonging. She quickly found both within our community. She showed up regularly, engaging with others, and discovered a passion for work in the Culinary Unit. Her efforts have paid off. She is starting a transitional employment position at Squatters Brewery.

This opportunity serves as an important bridge for Bluejay, helping her re-enter the workforce after a gap in employment. She hopes to continue her journey by attending school for Culinary Arts, turning her passion into a lifelong career.

What truly stands out about Bluejay is her heart for others. Even while rebuilding her own life, she gives back to the unhoused community by making and distributing care packages to those in need. "It warms my heart to give back to others when they are struggling," Bluejay shares.

Please join us in congratulating Bluejay on her incredible progress and bright future ahead!

We’re excited to celebrate Alliance House member Austin for success in his part time independent employment with his family’s company, Stated Income Group, for the past two years. He works as the Server Manager, setting up email servers and offering other tech support.

Before reaching this milestone, Austin gained valuable experience through several Alliance House Transitional Employment (TE) positions , including placements at the University of Utah and Goodwill. He shared that these opportunities helped him build confidence, develop new skills, and feel prepared to take the next step toward independent employment. Austin also credits the daily structure and supportive community at Alliance House for helping him maintain balance and routine as he maintains employment.

Congratulations, Austin, on your hard work and dedication! We look forward to seeing all you accomplish.

Since May, Clubhouse member Trip has been employed at the Sports Mall, a local health club, where he thrives in his dual roles in sales and as the night manager. Trip shares that the community and connection he’s found at the Clubhouse have been an important part of helping him stay focused and reach his goals. Supporting members in achieving and sustaining independent employment is a cornerstone of the Clubhouse model, reflecting the belief that work fosters purpose, dignity, and full participation in community life.

Outside of work, Trip channels his creativity through music. You can catch him performing every Wednesday at Contento Café in Salt Lake City. We’re proud to celebrate Trip’s accomplishments and the balance he’s built between meaningful work and creative passion.

Each year on October 10th, the world observes World Mental Health Day, a global moment to spotlight mental health, dismantle stigma, and advocate for recovery-focused services. Alliance House is proud to support mental health recovery by providing a compassionate, community-based program that empowers individuals to grow, heal, and thrive.

Clubhouse philosophy is based on the belief that people living with mental illness can recover and lead fulfilling lives when given support, respect, and opportunities. One key part of this is the "work-ordered day," where members and staff work side by side in running the Clubhouse. This structure builds confidence, routine, and a sense of purpose, which are all important for mental health recovery.
