What is Supported Decision-Making? SDM lets adults with disabilities make their own decisions with the help of people they trust. We all use SDM, whether it is asking a parent for financial advice or a coworker to suggest a repair shop. All types of people use SDM, including individuals with learning disabilities, intellectual disabilities, or mental illness. SDM is also becoming popular with older adults.

We are looking for someone to join our amazing team!

The DLC is Utah’s Protection and Advocacy System for individuals with disabilities, has an opening for an attorney. The successful candidate will provide advocacy for individuals with legal issues related to their disability, specifically advocating for their rights under Titles II and III of the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Fair Housing Act. This position will involve working closely with other members of DLC’s Fair Housing and Access and Rights Teams. The position will focus on litigating cases under both statutes. The ideal candidate will have experience practicing in federal court, and managing the discovery process. Other duties may include preparing legal research, giving legal advice, reviewing and understanding administrative regulations, providing legal, policy, and analysis of issues, developing public educational programs, participating in preparation of grant proposals, and representing the DLC or its clients in various administrative proceedings. The position is located in Salt Lake City with some periodic travel to other areas of the state. However, the DLC has adopted a hybrid work policy, and attorneys are permitted to work remotely from their homes, so long as they also have the ability to come into the office for required meetings. The DLC is a non-profit, civil rights-focused law office providing legal advocacy services statewide to Utahans with disabilities. Services include: legal advice and representation, including litigation services; intake and referral, outreach, training and public policy advocacy. The DLC has approximately 30 staff members including attorneys, advocates, intake specialists, administrators and support personnel. Core program funding comes from annualized federal grants.

Minorities and individuals with disabilities are encouraged to apply.

This is a full-time position. The DLC’s salary range and benefits package for a candidate meeting all the minimum requirements are competitive with other public interest law providers. Starting salary begins at $95,500 depending on experience.

A‬ traumatic brain‬ injury (TBI) can happen from a bump, blow, jolt, gunshot, or blast to the head. It‬ can change the way your brain works. You may have felt dizzy, confused,‬ or even passed out when it happened.‬

The Utah Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and the Utah‬. Brain Injury Council (UBIC) want to know how people with a TBI feel about the services available in Utah.‬

UBIC is asking questions like:‬
● How important are these services to you?‬
● Are you happy with the services you receive?‬
● Are the services easy to get?‬

‭UBIC created a short survey to help them understand your thoughts.‬ It does not ask‬ for your name or contact information.‬ Use this link to go to the survey:‬ https://utahdhs.iad1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_b4axiMRXirj0qWO

There is another survey for family and friends or service providers.

If you live in Utah and have had a TBI, we hope you will take the survey. Your feedback is important. Thank you for helping make services better!‬

A survey designed for people who have experienced a traumatic brain injury (TBI). The information gathered will help us identify what services are currently available to people who have experienced a brain injury and will help shape the development of TBI services over the next five years.
