Join us in celebrating Patient Blood Management Awareness Week!

PBM Awareness Week is a time to raise awareness about the importance of managing and preserving a patient’s own blood. It promotes safe, evidence-based care that reduces unnecessary transfusions and improves outcomes across all healthcare settings.

At Intermountain Health, we're proud to be growing our Patient Blood Management program with three dedicated PBM coordinators leading the way. A key focus our coordinators will place on is anemia management. Early identification and treatment of anemia is essential to reduce transfusion needs, support recovery, and improve patient outcomes.

🏃‍♀️💙 Hero on the Run 💙🏃‍♀️
While racing the Berlin Marathon, Intermountain caregiver Sam Hall, RN,
paused her own race to save a fellow runner’s life.
At mile 15, Sam saw a runner collapse. Without hesitation, she jumped into
action—checking for a pulse, calling for help, and performing CPR until
medics arrived.

“I kept thinking, ‘How do I leave this man?’” Sam said. She finished the
race far behind her goal time, but with a heart full of relief after learning
he survived. Sam’s also chasing another goal: becoming a “six-star finisher” by
completing all six World Major Marathons. Berlin was her fourth—next up,
Tokyo and London!

Her message? 🫀 Stay current on CPR training (check the link in our bio). You never know when you’ll need it.

Her care was built on a team-based approach with her oncologist, general surgeon, and plastic surgeon. Guided by Dr. Shale, Katchie chose tissue expanders and reconstruction following her mastectomy—a decision that helped her regain confidence and feel like herself again.

In partnership with the Las Vegas Raiders, four brave cancer warriors from Intermountain Children's Health spent an epic day with the Raiders: meeting players and Raiderettes, playing games, and touring the Intermountain Health Performance Center. All four of these patients have traveled from Nevada to Utah for certain types of care.

Jade, Benji, Luna, and Colston have all battled extensive rounds of chemotherapy and other challenging treatments. These unforgettable moments are part of a powerful mission: bringing Nevada its first Children’s Hospital so families no longer have to travel out of state for lifesaving care.

Thank you, Las Vegas Raiders, for standing with our community and championing children’s health in Nevada.
