Tip Tuesday: When you are offered unhealthful food choices, don’t be afraid to say, “No!” People often want to bake for you and offer you treats. It is hard to be rude and say no, especially to something that looks so tempting, but practice tactful ways to say no and hopefully explain why you can’t indulge, so these same people won’t keep offering you temptation.

Tip Tuesday: Oily fish like salmon is incredibly healthy. It is also very satisfying, keeping you full for many hours with relatively few calories. Salmon is loaded with high quality protein, healthy fats and also contains all sorts of important nutrients. Fish, and seafood in general, supplies a significant amount of iodine. This nutrient is necessary for proper function of the thyroid, which is important to keep the metabolism running optimally. Studies show that a huge number of people in the world aren't getting all the iodine they need. Salmon is also loaded with Omega-3 fatty acids, which have been shown to help reduce inflammation, which is known to play a major role in obesity and metabolic disease. Mackerel, trout, sardines, herring and other types of oily fish are also excellent

Tip Tuesday: Along your weight loss journey, focus on small, consistent changes – such as reducing your calorie intake by 100 to200 calories a day, walking an extra 10 to 15 minutes, using a smaller plate, or drinking more water. Small daily behavioral shifts can be more effective than drastic unsustainable changes.

Tip Tuesday: Before you eat anything, ask yourself, ”Is it worth the calories?” We often eat things mindlessly without really deciding if the food will really satisfy us or if we will enjoy it enough to justify the calories. Just being mindful with this question will help you make better choices.

Tip Tuesday: When you set goals for the new year, try to make them SMART. Be specific with what you want to accomplish such as, “Stop eating white flour.” Have a way to measure the goal such as keeping a food journal to check your progress. Make sure you spell out ways you can achieve the goal such as, “Instead of cereal in the morning, I’ll eat eggs.” Make sure you actually care about the goal and that it is realistic. And finally, set a time., so you can have a specific time to measure progress such as, “Stop eating white flour for two weeks.”

Congratulations to Sandy Dellow. She had a SADI-S in August of 2024. 16 months out, she has gone from 256 pounds to 123 pounds. She now wears a 4/6 in pants, small shirts, and even her shoe size is smaller. She goes to the gym 3 to 4 times a week and does both cardio and weights. She has a walking pad she uses while working at a stand up desk at home for typically 45 mins a day, Monday through Friday. Her migraines are gone and she doesn’t have to use arthritis medication anymore because all the weight is off her knees. Her life has changed even more since starting hormone replacement therapy with BMI of Utah. She claims. “I am loving this journey.” Way to go, Sandy! Keep up the good work!
