Use your cupped hands! 🤲 Check out tips 1-3 if you haven’t already! This tip helps you with Tip #3, or “eat only until you are about 70% full.”
👉 Ayurveda tells us that we have the tool to figure out what “70%” means right at our fingertips…literally!
🤲 If you cup your hands, they will hold the amount of cooked food that will fit into your stomach, leaving you satisfied but not stuffed or overly full. (If you’re eating raw food or salad, you’ll want to use the weight method I mention in the video.)
🤓 Fun experiment: Fill your cupped hands to the brim with water and then empty it into a bowl—you’ll see this is fair amount of food! 🍲
🙌 And I love this tip because it varies from person to person based on your size, stricture, and, therefore, metabolic needs.
💗 stay tuned for more tips on how to figure out this, often elusive, “70%” full concept!
🫶thanks for watching and reading! 😘

3️⃣ Ayurvedic tip #3 on HOW to eat for best digestion: Eat only until your are 70% full.

💙 This is a practice that is prevalent in many cultures around the world, including those that are considered “blue zones.” Blue zones are areas of the world, where there are a higher percentages of humans who are living into their 90s and even 100s.

🗾 In Japan, this practice is called “hara hachi bu,“ which means “8 out of 10.“

🩻 This is one of the best ways to find a healthy weight that supports your individual frame. Eating until we are 70 to 80% full promotes just the right amount of healthy tissue production – not too much and not too little.

🤔 I have found thus particular tip to be extremely dependent upon the individual, and it requires adherence to the two practices I talk about in my previous videos on Ayurvedic wisdom and how to eat for best digestion and, therefore, overall health.

👉 You’ll definitely need to eliminate distractions and chew thoroughly during meals in order to find what “70%” means for you on any given day. This could change day today, seasonally, or even in different “seasons“ of life, during which you might need more or less food.

🤓 In fact, this is such an important guideline that requires a lot of unpacking, that I’m going to post three more videos with specific ways you can find your very own “70% full“ at each meal.

👀 So stay tuned for more specific tips on how to practice this guideline for optimal health and wellness and as always, please feel free to share any comments, questions, or any wisdom you might have around this important Ayurvedic digestive practice.

🙏❤️😘 Thank you so much!
See you next time! XOXO🫶

💧 Drinking 16 oz of room temp. water is the 4th Ayurvedic practice I do every single morning.
I do this after tongue cleaning, oil pulling, and rosewater eyewash. (Check out those previous videos, if you haven’t already!)
💦 The Ayurvedic practice of drinking warm or room temp water first thing in the morning does the following:
🔥stimulates hydrochloric acid production and, therefore, the digestive system and metabolism;
⬇️pushes” downward on the lower intestines to stimulate peristalsis (the action associated with digestion and elimination) to stimulate a morning bowel movement;
💧HYDRATES tissues;
💩continues the natural “detox” processes that have been going on all night, while sleeping, especially in the liver and digestive system;
😮‍💨alleviates, reduces, and often resolves the symptoms of acid reflux and GERD by restoring the natural downward movement of the digestive system.
🧊 Why not cold water? When we are cold, our bodies hold on to waste materials to stay warm, including urine, f***s, and sweat. 🥶 When we add more cold through our drinks and foods, the organs “tense” and “hold” on to waste matter to conserve heat.
👉If you’re prone to gas, bloating, anxiety, and/or constipation, you need more WARMTH in your life. So I would recommend consuming WARM WATER (you might not even have to do 16 oz) to stimulate morning bowel movement.
🍋 Adding a little squeeze of lemon juice can also help in that the sour taste, according to Ayurveda, stimulates digestion and can facilitate that downward flow even more.
🥵 If you are more warm-natured, like me, the volume of the liquid is what matters (although the water still needs to be at least room temp—never cold).
👆So if 16oz. doesn’t do the trick, you might try 24 oz or even up to 32 oz on slower-moving mornings.
🤓 Let me know what you think or if you have any questions about this practice! Stay tuned for more morning Ayurvedic practices!
🙏❤️😘Thanks for reading and watching!
XOXO

Tip #2 on best digestion (Ayurveda and How to Eat for Best Digestion): CHEW your food thoroughly.
🧐 Here’s why: Focusing on chewing food well has been shown to reduce abdominal pain from burning, bloating, or cramps by 85% AND reduce constipation, and diarrhea by 65%
🍲 Chewing thoroughly has been shown to prevent overeating.
👉 This could be bcause chewing well Increases hormones that tell us we’re full or satisfied from our meal.⚖️ This also could be why studies show those who focus on chewing their food lose more weight than those who don’t.
🤤 chewing thoroughly has been shown to activate the “rest and digest” (parasympathetic nervous system) response (vs. sympathetic nervous system – “fight or flight” – response)
🤯 This could be why chewing food well has been shown to decrease cravings and emotional eating.
🧠 Chewing well also has been linked to increased cognitive awareness, attention, and ability to focus (this could be because of the connection between the action of chewing / movement of the jaw and the hippocampus (part of the brain responsible for focus) through neural circuits).
🪄 There is no magic number; I always tell my clients that if they chew their food and then spit it out, aside from maybe the color, could you tell what the food is?
🤨 If not, you’ve done your job of chewing thoroughly. 🥳 You just want the food to be a consistent texture.
🌈 So many great reasons to focus on chewing. Is this something you think you could do or something you believe could help your digestion? Let me know if you have any questions.
🙏❤️😘 Thanks so much for reading and watching.
XOXO 😘

Tip #1 for Best Digestion!

Ayurveda says HOW we eat can solve 85% of our digestive issues, even more than what we eat. Since the digestive tract is where health or disease begins, according to Ayurveda, improving and optimizing our digestion improves and optimizes our health, well-being, and longevity.

1️⃣☝️The first place to start is eliminating distractions while you eat. This includes reading, working, listening to a podcast (or something that you need to use the mind to process), having intense discussions, or conversation, etc.
🧠 The brain prioritizes a low level of distraction over digestion, so if you were giving the mind something to “chew on,“ or process, it will take energy and vital attention away from the physical digestive process in order to process this information.
😑 I know this is a hard guideline for many people to incorporate, but if you actually focus on your food, it’s probably only a 10 to 15 minute sacrifice. Then you can go back to whatever you were doing before: working, reading, driving, etc.
🤔 Let me know what you think about this one, and stay tuned for more tips in future videos. Thanks for watching and reading! XOXO 🙏❤️😘

Insomnia? Tachycardia? Panic attacks? Anxiety? PTSD/CPTSD? Long COVID? CFS? Crappy digestion? Brain fog? Hot flashes? Adrenal, thyroid, and/or immune issues? Generally stressed? YOGA NIDRA!!!
☀️More than any other practice, I ask my Ayurveda and Reiki clients to perform yoga nidra most days to improve every facet of life. (I also do 20-30 minutes of yoga nidra 4 out of 7 days a week myself…it has changed my life and helped progress and support my healing journey in leaps and bounds.)
⭐️ This is a video from one of my favorite yoga nidra practitioners, Ally Boothroyd, talking about the scientific and anecdotal benefits of yoga nidra. She puts out a new recording almost every week on YouTube—there are over 100 FREE yoga nidra recordings. I typically use her 20-35 minute recordings, but there are even shorter and longer ones. It is said that 20 minutes of yoga nidra can impart the benefits of one hour of sleep, in case you need more incentive.

Here’s the link to my own playlist of some of my favorite Ally Boothroyd yoga nidra recordings.
