Are you eligible for Italian dual citizenship?
1. You're eligible for Italian citizenship if your father was an Italian citizen when you were born, and you haven't given up your right to Italian citizenship.
2. If your mother was an Italian citizen when you were born after January 1st, 1948, and you haven't renounced your Italian citizenship, you may be eligible.
3. Eligibility applies if your father, born outside of Italy, had an Italian citizen father, and neither you nor your father renounced Italian citizenship.
4. If your mother, born outside of Italy, had an Italian citizen father when you were born after January 1st, 1948, and neither you nor your mother renounced Italian citizenship, you may qualify.
5. You might be eligible if your paternal or maternal grandfather was born in the United States, had an Italian citizen father, and no one in your lineage renounced Italian citizenship. Note: For a grandmother born before 01/01/1948, Italian citizenship can only pass through her father to children born after 01/01/1948.
