Demo the baby wrap? Yes, please!! Embracing the journey of parenthood, one cuddle at a time! 🌼 Babywearing not only strengthens the bond between parent and child but also supports healthy overall development. Research shows that close contact through babywearing can reduce stress levels in infants, promoting better emotional regulation and attachment. Plus, it enhances their immune response by keeping them close to their caregiver’s heartbeat, antibody programming, hormone exchange, and body temperature. Every quiet heartbeat and cozy snuggle fosters a world of health, love, security, and connection. 💕

From doula extraordinaire Jennifer Kay:

“Yesterday was such a fascinating day!

I attended my first ever prenatal visit with a doula client and her home birth midwife Emme Pack.

WOW!🤩 It was 1.5 HOUR packed full of great information and conversations. The amount of quality time spent was so precious. The amount of time spent on 🍏🍠🥚 NUTRITION 🥦🥓🫐 was mind blowing.

Did you know there is a well done research study that has proven a correlation between protein🥩 intake and 🤰🏼Preeclampsia, IUGR and other maternal risk factors?

If a woman consumes over 100 grams of protein a day research shows that her risks for developing these conditions goes away!!!!😮

With that being said, I would like your 👊🏼 help! Have you used any kind of app to track your protein intake?”(permission granted from the client shown here. The other person is me.)

2016 on this day in the Amazon with Maria Antonia and friends. I arrived as a midwife, called on by a US medical mission going to Archidona to “teach the midwives” and I was so glad they chose me. Glad because I I had no intention to “go teach the midwives” but to learn and exchange. I asked them if we could put away the clipboards for the day and pick up where they left off with the living fence they were constructing that week. While planting trees and lining the row with barbed wire to create the fence, we talked and laughed about birth stories and babies and bodies until we became good friends. The second day we finished the fence and celebrated with spit-fermented fruit drink and sugar cane while we began sharing stories like a proper peer review. We all enjoyed the next day again. The conversations got more concentrated and insightful, while we demonstrated and shared skills together. They also described frustrations with government policies and the terrible experiences birthers were having at the hospitals. Their approach was saving parents and babies and the traditions were being jeopardized. They were fundraising for a culture center to offset some of the issues and still are working hard today to maintain the local midwife association. At one point I co-founded and carried out a midwifery conference out of my large property with invited speakers, teachers, and professionals where the Amazonideife association wears present as special participants at all levels. Later, they invited me to their place, a five-hour winding drive into the Amazon forest for a demonstration day where they were reenacting a typical birth for local news. I made a mini-documentary called “Birth in the Amazon” for YouTube. Years ago, it was the only thing that popped up if you entered the terms in the you tube search bar. Thankfully, many more options have added to the awareness and conversation around preserving human rights and non-violent birth with better outcomes as found in the Amazon with these midwives. In the world, these midwives have been making a difference and protecting families with good and wise care. For me personally, I’ll never be the same. 🫶🏼🙏🌿🌿🌿

Really excited about a focus on nutrition and other research to support optimal fertility. I offer consults and have great success supporting families through the pre-pregnancy preparation and value food as a huge impact. Very excited to have this resource from Lily Nichols!

Real Food for Fertility is a book Lisa (FertilityFriday) and I have been dreaming of writing for years. In fact, from start to finish, this project took more than 3 years.
We went HAM on the research for this because we find it frustrating how watered down — and inaccurate — much of the information is that you encounter on fertility.

Dietary information on fertility, in particular, is often conflicting or poorly researched. We aim to change that with Real Food for Fertility. I took the lead on the majority of the nutrition content and Lisa took the lead on most of the menstrual cycle, fertility awareness, and hormone content. We, of course, collaborated at every single stage of this to fact check each other and make sure the book is engaging, yet informative.
The amount of research we reviewed in writing this book is insane, well over 10,000 studies — and several thousand in-text citations made it into the final manuscript.
We also recognize that fertility is NOT JUST ABOUT WOMEN, and include a very detailed chapter on s***m quality. It “takes two to tango,” as they say, and we must support both partners’ health in the preconception window. (And luckily, much of the same principles apply to both male and female fertility, so there’s no need to be cooking two separate meals!)
In Real Food for Fertility, we show how preconception nutrition and lifestyle choices not only support your health and vitality but also lay the essential groundwork for your baby's development.

If you have been asking me for the prequel to Real Food for Pregnancy, this is it.
But this book isn't just about nutrition. We delve into topics like the menstrual cycle, fertility awareness, birth control, stress management, toxins, artificial reproductive technology, and the most common reproductive health challenges affecting your fertility.
It’s a comprehensive book — and don’t take my word for it! This feedback from our advanced review team says it best.

If you’ve already started reading, I’d love to hear your feedback so far!

So loved soaking up wisdom and compassion from this new-parents couple last night at our birth class. Hearing birth stories is so inspiring and encouraging and these two and their little one brought so much love and wisdom to class. Thank you!

Still room in class as we move into class two next week. We extended it an extra week so we could indulge deeper convo with these two last night and we’ll review class one some next week; so you are not too late to join!

Couldn’t agree with you more, Lily! If I start my day with protein right off the bat, it shifts the entire day. this was so true when I was pregnant with my babies, but but it still impacts me to this day. I spent 12 years as a vegetarian and three of those years as a vegan. It can be trickier getting in enough protein but it’s doable!! However you get your protein in though, I promise you’ll feel so much better if you do and I would love that for you. 🫶🏼

I'm a big fan of eggs at breakfast, but I do mix it up sometimes, though I rarely compromise on prioritizing protein..Pictured here: cottage cheese, Trader Joe's grainless granola, strawberries.
I've talked extensively about the importance of protein for pregnancy and postpartum, but protein is just as important for supporting hormonal balance, ovulatory function, and overall fertility. I get into the nitty gritty research on this in my forthcoming book on fertility, which will be available for purchase on Feb 14th. Who's excited?
If you have any fertility nutrition questions, drop them in the comments! Stay tuned for a LOT of myth busting in this next book — there's so much to unravel.

“Jungle up!” I replied to my assistant at the garden center. Kat wanted to warm up the office and laid down a fortune on plants she felt represented elements of my background and travels. Favorite addition? Bertha, the gigantic monstera deliciosa. 🪴

“We had another baby boy! [He] surprised us and came early and fast—ended up being an unplanned unassisted birth 😜 and was just honestly a dream ♥️ all through these postpartum days your words of wisdom have resurfaced and guided me. You are still midwifing me, and I am grateful!”

Many families have sent me similar messages over the years. 🥹 I’m so grateful that people feel our care long after my assistants and I go home. Of course I’d wish for all the safe companionship the family intended, but I’m grateful for their self-confidence and peace. Welcome little one. 🥰 (Quote and photo shared with permission, as always.)
