MountainStar Healthcare is thrilled to congratulate Allee Leishman on being awarded the Patricia Frist Scholarship Award, funded by the HCA Healthcare Foundation! The Patricia Frist Memorial Scholarship honors the dependent children of HCA Healthcare employees by providing financial support for a postsecondary education through an application process.

Allee is the daughter of Tiffany, Director of Development for our Physician Services Group. She currently attends the University of Utah, pursuing a degree in Political Science.

Allee expressed, “When I found out I was a recipient of this scholarship, I was overwhelmed with excitement and gratitude. This scholarship will assist me in pursuing a bachelor’s degree at the University of Utah and eventually achieving my goal of attending law school in the future. I’m very appreciative to the HCA Healthcare Foundation, and this truly makes a difference in my life and education! It has not only eased the financial burden of attending college, but it has also allowed me to focus on my studies and enjoy my schooling.”

We can’t wait to see where your education will take you, Allee! We know it will be remarkable, and we’re proud to play a small role in your journey. Best of luck in the new school year!

This year, HCA Healthcare’s Mountain Division awarded 28 scholarships totaling over $100,000. Across HCA Healthcare, 702 scholarships were granted for a total of $2,271,000. Learn more: https://bit.ly/40XuQyG

🧠⏱️ Every second counts when someone is suffering from a stroke. At MountainStar Healthcare, we’re proud to be part of our larger HCA Healthcare system of care, which collectively responds to strokes 45% faster than the national standard. We know door-to-needle (DTN) time is critical. Here, we explain what DTN time is and why it matters.

DTN time is the amount of time between an ischemic stroke patient's arrival at the hospital (“door”) and when they receive a clot-busting medication (“needle”) to help restore blood flow to the brain. The faster the medicine is given, the more brain cells can potentially be saved, helping to reduce the risk of long-term disability or stroke.

We show up for our communities! Last week, nursing leaders from our network gathered to help assemble “pantry packs” for the Bountiful Food Pantry! In Davis County, 1 in 4 children is at risk of going hungry. The Davis School District distributes nearly 4,000 of these pantry packs each week to feed hungry kids over the weekend. Thank you to our nursing leaders for supporting our communities and students in need!

The Bountiful Food Pantry, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, has provided supplemental food to low-income families in south Davis County, Utah, since it began operating in the 1970s. Thank you to the Bountiful Food Pantry for all your work to help alleviate hunger in Davis County, Utah! Learn more about how you can get involved at: https://bountifulfoodpantry.org/

Did you know that for every 10 volunteer hours logged, HCA Healthcare colleagues can donate $200 to a nonprofit of their choice, up to $1,000 a year? This volunteer grant program is designed to promote and acknowledge colleague community engagement and volunteer service.

A is a medical exam that assesses whether your child can safely participate in activities like sports, cheerleading and playing in a marching band. 🏆 Most schools, recreational leagues and other organizations require this exam annually. It involves a review of your child’s medical history and a physical exam to check for any health concerns that could be aggravated by physical activity.

Looking for a place to complete your child’s sports physical for this school year? CareNow Urgent Care can tackle it fast! No appointment necessary. CareNow® has over 220 locations across our larger HCA Healthcare network. To find a location near you, visit https://bit.ly/4mqhKCk.

Utah CareNow® centers – MountainStar Healthcare's eight urgent care clinics – recently earned reaccreditation from the Urgent Care Association (UCA) for the highest level of distinction in patient care. Fewer than 20% of all urgent care centers in the U.S. receive the UCA accreditation for having met all of the established standards and criteria for quality of patient care, safety and scope of services.

The Utah clinics are located in West Point, Bountiful, Salt Lake, Murray, West Jordan, South Jordan, American Fork and Orem. All are open seven days a week, including during extended evening hours. All locations accept walk-in visits and also have a convenient Web Check-In® option.

Pilar Haskell, Jr. – a new resident of Utah – was just 22 weeks along with her first child when her water broke. The incredible Women's Services team at MountainStar Healthcare's Ogden Regional Medical Center kept Pilar pregnant for two weeks. On March 14 – Pi Day – Baby Pilar III was born at 24 weeks. This beautiful baby girl, named after both her mom and grandma, has quadrupled her birth weight.

On Saturday, baby girl graduated from the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) after 113 days, left the hospital for the first time and was welcomed home! 🩷

Peripheral artery disease (PAD) is a condition in which narrowed arteries reduce blood flow to the arms or legs. It’s easy to mistake PAD for other conditions like hip arthritis or spinal stenosis, which means often goes undiagnosed. Many people with PAD don’t experience symptoms at all. That’s why awareness of risk factors – such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes and smoking – is crucial for screening.

Understanding the early warning signs is the first step toward timely intervention and better quality of life. In most cases, lifestyle changes, exercise and medications are enough to slow the progression or even reverse the symptoms of PAD, so talk to your doctor if you think you may be at risk. For more information on preventing and treating PAD, visit https://bit.ly/44E2H0E

In collaboration with the American Heart Association, our larger HCA Healthcare network promotes better heart health through national education efforts and community integration.
