SHE’S PLANTING THE SEEDS OF RECOVERY. WATCH THEM GROW!

Jackie Buckman is an inspiration and is helping to shape the future. Her alcoholic behavior was so bad that life long friends threw her out of the house where they were living. She took it to heart, found recovery through treatment, spent many years in school and is now a clinical social worker giving back what was given to her. The inspirational story in this week's Odyssey House Journals. Watch or listen and hopefully subscribe (free) to the 30 minute podcast on the following platforms with the following links:

This month, we’re giving some well-deserved recognition to KayLyn Giles, Housing Specialist Supervisor in our Transitional Services Program.

KayLyn brings an extensive background in nonprofit work and has been with Odyssey House for a year and a half. In her role, she oversees housing initiatives within our sober living and boarding homes, supporting individuals with mental health needs as they work toward stability.

KayLyn collaborates with Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County, internal teams at Odyssey House, and community partners to help individuals secure housing. She works closely with grant applicants to support their transition into sober living and, eventually, permanent housing. This involves guiding them through applications, documentation, and any other steps along the way. One of her favorite parts of the job is getting to check in month to month and see the progress people make as they rebuild their lives.

“I think everyone needs a support system. Whatever it is, everyone needs a support system, so being part of that [is great], and each of us has a little role in that, and I’m grateful for what part I can play because it’s a huge undertaking. I can’t help in every way – I don’t have experience in every way – but if I can help with this piece, and that can be supportive to them then that’s part of the goal for resilience and self-sufficiency.”

Thank you, KayLyn, for helping people navigate the path to stable housing and being part of the support system that makes it possible. The work you do helps turn an overwhelming step into something achievable!
