Springtime in the desert is magical.

Blooming cacti, incredibly aggressive cedar gnats, fingercracks way up off the deck, long days moving on sandstone...

*Lessons from El Cap 🏔*

⚡️We attempted the Salathé wall up ye olde big stone on our last trip.
- Did we summit?
No, we did not.
- Does it matter?
Eh, I don't really know. Probably not.
- Did we learn a ton about big walling and have a good time?
We most certainly did.

⚡️Ultimately, I feel that the difference between an outcome perspective vs a process perspective is profound. I think we often use an outcome (reaching the summit, getting the promotion etc.) to measure our self worth by.

Whereas with a process mindset we value the entire experience and don't attach our worth as a human to an external objective.

Did I learn?
Did I grow?
Did I challenge my self and expand my comfort zone?

I think I'll always try to choose the latter. It leads to a different perspective and a different approach to how I live my life.

⚡️Over our attempt on I got to hang out with two stellar humans ( Paul Canney and Neil Soneson ) and we got to dial in our systems as a team. There were moments of frustration, fear, excitement, maximum stoke, disappointment, gratitude, laughter. It was a full spectrum.

We bailed as the upper pitches were soaking wet and we had some potential weather coming in the next day. We made a conservative decision and ultimately we'll go back in the Autumn and give it another shot if the gods will it.

Thankful for good friends, health, fitness, adventures and life 🤘

"Everybody needs beauty as well as bread, places to play in and pray in, where nature may heal and give strength to body and soul." - John Muir

A Yosemite photo without a John Muir quote just doesn't feel right. Yosemite falls raging with springtime runoff.

“The more important a call or action to our soul’s evolution, the more Resistance we will feel toward pursuing it.” - Steven Pressfield

The voices that are constantly chattering about potential fears or failures can act as a guidepost that we are entering into a space that will require us to grow and evolve.

The process of being able to sit in the midst of mental dissidence and remain steady on the course requires courage and stubbornness. Anything creative, anything that takes us in the direction of a better and more fulfilling life will bring this internal resistance.

I'm learning to embrace the process of sitting with resistance, using it as an anti-compass of sorts. I need to walk towards fear, I need to explore that which I want to avoid. Unfortunately, this seems to be a crucial part of the process.

What creative pursuit triggers the most internal friction for you? What are you feeling called to bring into the world?
