Volunteers of America, Utah Providing paths for vulnerable Utahns to improve their lives and increase self-reliance

05/20/2026

Volunteer Appreciation Month is over, but we never stop celebrating the people who make this work possible.

At last Friday’s Founders Day Breakfast we debuted a short video about a group of volunteers who have been organizing a prom for the kids at our Youth Resource Center for the past 10 years. Watch it, like it, and share it with your friends. We think it will make your day a little brighter.

If this story moves you to volunteer or give, now is a great time to do both. Every donation through May 31st is matched up to $25,000 by the John C. Kish Foundation and we are currently 16% of the way to our goal. Volunteering also tends to slow down over the summer, so if you have been thinking about it, we would love to have you.

Tap the link in bio or visit voaut.org to donate or sign up. You can direct your gift to any program you choose, including Adult Homeless and HOP, Youth Homeless Services, Treatment Services, Detox Services, or our General Fund.

All of our videos are also on YouTube. Search Volunteers of America, Utah.

Founders Day is here, and every dollar donated counts twice.

Thanks to a $25,000 match from the John C. Kish Foundation, your gift goes further than ever for Salt Lake Valley residents facing homelessness, mental health challenges, and addiction.

This is our final push before our fiscal year ends June 30. Help us reach $50,000 with a donation before the end of May. Click the link in our bio to donate or visit voaut.org

Did you know volunteers serve around 60,000 hot meals a year at our Youth Resource Center? For kids ages 15-22 experiencing homelessness, quality nutrition isn’t just about a full stomach, it’s about giving their growing brains and bodies the energy they need to survive.

In honor of Volunteer Appreciation Month, we want to give a big shout-out to volunteers at all three of our kitchen’s like Mindy, who has spent 10 years stocking and organizing our “Harry Potter Pantry Closet” and ensuring that youth have access to nutricious food.

And thank you to Smith’s Food & Drug for naming VOA Utah this month’s Zero Hunger Hero! Their $1,000 donation will go directly toward keeping our pantry stocked for kids who need it most.

If you would like to join our mighty band of volunteers, visit voaut.org or click the link in our bio and while you’re at it, click the link to connect your Smith’s Rewards card and automatically donate to VOA Utah!

🌟 Happy Volunteer Appreciation Month! 🌟

We’re kicking off April with a huge thank you to the many incredible volunteers who fuel our mission every single day. Your time, your heart, and your dedication make all the difference, and our work simply wouldn’t be possible without you.

Here’s to you, our community. Together, we are Volunteers of America, Utah!

In 1986, Volunteers of America, Utah opened on Brooklyn Avenue in downtown Salt Lake City with a single program for men in recovery. Forty years later, we are honoring a legacy of walking alongside our neighbors through life’s toughest moments.

What began as one program has grown into eight facilities providing treatment, outreach, and essential services for those facing mental health challenges, addiction, and homelessness. Grounded in compassion, we continue to build pathways for people in need.

Thank you to the VOA Utah staff, volunteers, donors, and community partners, past and present, for working alongside us. Together, we are shaping a future where everyone has a safe place to call home and the opportunity to rebuild with dignity and hope.

Expanding to meet demand, VOA Utah’s Center for Women & Children is moving to Redwood Road

Next week, we’re relocating our women’s detoxification program from Murray to our Recovery on Redwood facility at 1875 S Redwood Road. This move expands our capacity to serve more mothers and families and makes recovery services more accessible by increasing proximity to our Cornerstone Counseling Center’s behavioral health services and major bus lines, which significantly reduces barriers to accessing our facility.

What stays the same? The heart of our program.

Women can safely withdraw from addictive substances while keeping their children, aged 10 and younger, with them, with access to three warm meals, peer support, recovery groups, and dedicated case managers who work side by side to ensure there is a sustainable path to recovery beyond detoxification.

To support women and children on their recovery journey, visit voaut.org or tap the link in our bio to volunteer your time or make a monetary donation.

We appreciated the opportunity to join KSL again and share how our multidisciplinary teams at VOA Utah remove barriers, meet people where they are, and provide wraparound care for those who need it most across Utah.

Right now, every gift is matched through December 31, helping us reach even more neighbors in need.

We’re grateful to Fox 13 for shining a light on the Youth Resource Center and the care, resources, and support offered to unsheltered youth.
Last year, we were able to support more than 400 young people through this program. Right now, your support can help us reach even more, with all donations doubled through December 31.
