💜 Dialysis Questions You Might Be Wondering💜

Why do dialysis patients sometimes feel cold during treatment?

Dialysis can lower body temperature slightly while blood circulates through the machine.
That’s why blankets are a dialysis patient’s best friend.
Staying warm helps make treatment more comfortable.
We can also turn up the heater on the machine to warm your blood!!

Why do some people cramp during dialysis?

Cramps can happen when fluid is removed faster than your muscles like.
Sometimes it’s related to fluid gains between treatments.
If cramps happen often, tell your care team.
We can help adjust your treatment.💜

💜 Dialysis Questions You Might Be Wondering 💜

What is “dry weight"

Dry weight is your weight without extra fluid in your body.
It’s the goal weight we try to reach after treatment so you can breathe easier and feel better.
Finding the right dry weight helps your heart and body work less hard.

💜 Catheters
Why can’t I keep my dialysis catheter forever?
Catheters are helpful when dialysis first starts.
But long-term they carry a higher risk of infection.
That’s why doctors encourage fistulas or grafts — they’re safer for the long run. 💜

⚠️ Blood Pressure Checks ⚠️
Why do we check your blood pressure every 15–30 minutes?
During dialysis, fluid is being removed from your body.
Checking often helps us catch changes early and keep you safe and feeling well.
It may seem like a lot…
but it’s one way we take care of you. 💜

⚠️ Machine Alarms ⚠️
Ever wonder why your dialysis machine alarms?
Most of the time it’s just the machine saying:
“Something changed — please check me.”
It could be your arm position, blood flow, or pressure in the line.
The alarm is actually a safety feature.
It’s the machine watching out for you. 💜
