🍨✨ Nothing says summer like homemade ice cream for supper! Tonight we made creamy vanilla, old-fashioned style, just like my family used to. Here’s the recipe if you want to try it too:

Vanilla Homemade Ice Cream (for a big old ice cream maker!)

6 eggs
2 cans evaporated milk
2 Tbsp vanilla extract
½ gallon whole milk
2 tsp cornstarch
2 cups sugar

👉 Beat the eggs, then mix everything together. Freeze it up in your ice cream maker and enjoy that rich, classic flavor. 🍦

Nothing fancy—just simple, sweet, and perfect. Who else grew up having homemade ice cream for supper? 🙋

At Eyes of Texas Optical, we care about more than just clear vision — we care about a fair and thriving community. This morning, nearly 200 health departments across Texas received an open letter from Homemade Texas and the Farm and Ranch Freedom Alliance regarding changes to the Texas Cottage Food Law (SB 541).

Starting September 1, 2025, no health department in Texas can require a permit or charge a fee for you to produce, sell, or sample cottage foods. Period. If an official knowingly ignores this law, they must be removed from their position.

Unfortunately, some health departments either don’t list working email addresses or use outdated ones, which means not everyone is getting this important update. That’s where you can help.

This isn’t about targeting jobs—it’s about ensuring the law protects the smallest businesses in our state, often run by women, minorities, and economically disadvantaged Texans. These entrepreneurs already face limits on what they can sell, how they can sell it, and how much they can make.
