The postpartum journey can be challenging but as we know—rest, lots of support and the proper nutrients are the best way for you to enjoy your journey! A great and holistic way to restore your body is through consuming your placenta!! Each placenta is wildly different, and tailored for you and your specific needs, think of it as a blueprint to a healthier you. 💕

You can consume your placenta in many ways; through capsules, tinctures, chocolates, smoothies! It is extremely beneficial doing so in your postpartum period.

I follow an amazing traditional Chinese method to clean, dehydrate and distribute placentas through capsules. I can also add flavorings if you’d like(placenta tastes like liver) such as peanut butter, oreos, dark chocolate.

🌿 Here are some of the benefits: 🌿
❤️ Increased milk supply
❤️ Increased energy levels
❤️ Lower chances of getting postpartum depression or anxiety
❤️ Hormonal balance and restoration
❤️ Helps with the shrinking of the uterus (also known as “uterine involution”) to pre-pregnancy size in a shorter duration of time
❤️ Replenishes depleted iron levels
❤️ Reduces post-natal bleeding
❤️ Speeds up the healing time for the birthing individual

When you encapsulate, I will provide you with placenta prints and a personalized cord keepsake. I also offer placenta tinctures that last a lifetime, salves that will heal anything, chocolates and smoothie prepping all from your placenta!

DM me for pricing or if you have any other questions 🙏

🌿 Padsicles and perineal spray 🌿

A great and easy addition to add to your postpartum check-list!

I love offering these to my clients to help aid them in their postpartum journey. Padsicles can sure feel great to women who feel swollen after pushing, have trouble with hemorrhoids, healing tears, etc).

Aside from padsicles, the herbs can be used for a perineal stray or poured in a sitz bath. ☺️

What you’ll need:
-Depends diapers (Or any brand of thick pads)
-Aloe leaves
-Witch hazel
-Ethically sourced and toxin-free herbs (My go to’s to pick and choose from are lavender, comfrey, yarrow, callendula, chamomile, witch hazel bark, rose petals)
-Spray bottle
-Jar for left over herbally goodness

I first start by boiling my herbs. Choose your desired herbs and put them in a pot with about 4 cups water. I do about 1/4c herbs. Let the herbs roll over and boil for 10-15 minutes. Strain the herbs and then pour the mixture into your spray bottle. The spray bottle can be used to spray onto the padsicles and also on yourself after you’ve used the bathroom or are feeling discomfort. Whatever is left, pour into a mason jar and use for baths! I also reboil the herbs to reap alllll the benefits.

Then I cut my aloe. You will want to cut the very bottom off at a 45° and let the latex run out of the aloe first. This prevents any allergic reactions. You will know when it’s running out because it will be a yellow mustard color, way different than the clear aloe gel. This takes about 10-15 minutes. Next, cut off the sides and the top part of the aloe. Then remove one green layer of the aloe leaf and scrape your gel into a cup.

Next you take the diaper, unfold it and apply everything on there. Witch Hazel, aloe, herb spray the herbal mix over it. You don’t want to over saturate the pad though because the pad will also be used for absorbing the postpartum blood.

Then fold those suckers up, stick them in the freezer and when the time comes, use them for a cool, refreshing and alleviating tool in postpartum.

If you were told this, you were likely lied to.

Yes, even if your grandmother was told this, and then your mother, and then you. Just because someone said it doesn't make it true. It may have just made their job easier.

Except in cases where there has been previous damage to the pelvis (like broken bones from an accident) or a deformity (due to a disease like Rickets), your body WILL birth your baby if given enough time and the ability to move into the right positions (and, in rare cases, a little assistance).

When a provider says a pelvis is too small, they are usually referring to Cephalopelvic Disproportion (CPD). CPD means that a baby's head is too large to fit through the mother's pelvis. True CPD is incredibly rare and super difficult to determine.

Most of the time a diagnosis of CPD is given with absolutely no basis for the statement.

Once in a while a series of measurements called “pelvimetry” is used to determine the size of the pelvic outlet to see if the baby will fit. These measurements are basically useless, however, since they can’t account for the fact that your pelvis expands by up to 30% during birth, and your baby’s skull plates slide over one another to fit the space (forming a cone). You also can’t know a baby’s size before birth, since late term ultrasounds are notoriously inaccurate.

So, basically, they’re guessing.

More often than not, a diagnosis of CPD is due to lack of patience, an unnecessary induction, or other controllable circumstances. Many cases of “failure to progress” during labor are arbitrarily given a diagnosis of CPD.

Were you told that your pelvis was too small to birth your baby?

Placenta encapsulation is a great way for moms to restore their health! Consuming the placenta increases mom’s energy levels and milk supply, decreases chances of PPD and PPA, assists in uterine involution, balancing hormones, replenishing iron levels and more!

These are pictures from the lovely Sophia Dunfee’s placenta encapsulation process. We followed the TCM method and yielded 100 capsules from it.

If you’re interested in encapsulating your placenta or needing some more advice, please feel free to reach out to me.

The umbilical cord is a conduit between the developing baby and the placenta.

The umbilical contains:
2️⃣arteries(umbilical arteries)
1️⃣vein(umbilical vein)

These are are buried within Wharton's jelly that all beautifully form the umbilical cord.

The umbilical cord develops from the yolk sac and allantois. It forms by the 5th week of pregnancy, replacing the yolk sac as the source of nutrients for the baby. The cord is not directly connected to the parent’s circulatory system, but instead joins the placenta, which transfers materials to and from the parental blood without allowing direct mixing.

The umbilical cord in a full term baby is usually about 20 inches long and about 0.75 inches in diameter.

The blood flow through the umbilical cord is approximately 35 ml / min at 20 weeks, and 240 ml / min at 40 weeks of gestation. Adapted to the weight of the baby, this corresponds to 115 ml / min / kg at 20 weeks and 64 ml / min / kg at 40 weeks.

The umbilical cord enters the baby via the abdomen, at the point which (after separation) will become the baby’s belly button.

Within the baby, the umbilical vein continues towards the transverse fissure of the liver, where it splits into two. One of these branches joins with the hepatic portal vein (connecting to its left branch), which carries blood into the liver. The second branch (known as the ductus venosus) bypasses the liver and flows into the inferior vena cava, which carries blood towards the heart. The two umbilical arteries branch from the internal iliac arteries, and pass on either side of the urinary bladder into the umbilical cord, completing the circuit back to the placenta.

The umbilical vein supplies the baby with oxygenated, nutrient-rich blood from the placenta. The baby’s heart pumps deoxygenated, nutrient-depleted blood through the umbilical arteries and back to the placenta.

THE UMBILICAL CORD IS PERFECTLY DESIGNED TO MAKE A GORGEOUS EXCHANGE OF GOOD THINGS COMING IN AND BAD THINGS GOING OUT.

Such great benefits can come from delayed cord clamping! Wait till white!

DELAYED CORD CLAMPING ⌛

“After baby is born we usually think of the umbilical cord as a relic – part a life support system that is no longer needed. But the reality is that the cord has one last job to do, and it’s a big one.

The cord and placenta are a sort of external circulation system: one vein carries oxygen and nutrient-rich blood from the placenta to the baby, and two arteries carry carbon dioxide rich blood and waste away from baby to the placenta for purification. When baby is born, about 1/3 of its blood is in the external part of the circulation system, but quickly makes it’s way to the baby via the umbilical cord. Unless of course, the cord is cut before the transfer is complete.

Delayed umbilical cord clamping (DCC) allows more blood to transfer from the placenta to the baby, increasing the baby’s blood volume by up to a third.

The iron in the blood increases the newborn’s iron storage, which is vital for healthy brain development.

Some new studies have found that DCC can have a positive effect on both preterm and full-term babies. These benefits include an increase in placental transfusion, a 60% increase of RBCs and a 30% increase in neonatal blood volume.

Another advantage of DCC is the decreased risk of iron deficiency anemia.
The extra blood at birth helps the baby to cope better with the transition from life in the womb, where everything is provided for them by the placenta and the mother, to the outside world. Their lungs get more blood so that the exchange of oxygen into the blood can take place smoothly.

Delayed clamping also results in an infusion of stem cells, which play an essential role in the development of the immune, respiratory, cardiovascular, and central nervous systems, among many other functions. The concentration of stem cells in fetal blood is higher than at any other time of life. ICC [immediate cord clamping] leaves nearly one-third of these critical cells in the placenta.

Stem cells may also help to repair any brain damage the baby might have suffered during a difficult birth”
