Energy and emotion: Evanston Chamber Lunch and Learn event explores emotional health through energy work and healing from within by Rana Jones

The Evanston Chamber of Commerce hosted a Lunch and Learn on May 8 featuring Lanette Ferguson, founder of Elevate Your Health Vibe, who presented on the connections between energy, emotions, and physical health.
Ferguson, an energy worker, introduced attendees to her holistic approach to healing, explaining that energy is “the vital life force that flows through all living things.” She emphasized that energy transcends religious beliefs, stating that it is what “animates us and when blocked affects our health.”
In her hour-long presentation, Ferguson described the five energy bodies and the impact of unresolved emotions and trauma. She pointed out specific areas in the body where these emotions are stored. “Grief and depression are stored in the lungs,” she said and added, “Fear is stored in the liver.”
The presentation took an interactive turn when Dr. Trent Cluny, optometrist at Uinta Eye and Vision and a board member of the Chamber, asked what emotion is stored in the eyes. “Anger, frustration, and envy,” Ferguson responded, recounting a session with a client experiencing vision problems. “I spent an hour and a half on her dealing with trapped emotions in her body that were affecting her eyes,” she said. “It was kind of wild.”
Further exploring emotional impacts, Ferguson said, “Worry, anxiety and distrust is stored in the digestive system.” She explained that when painful emotions are repressed instead of processed, dissociation can occur. Sharing her own journey, Ferguson said she grew up without being encouraged to express her emotions. “So I ate my emotions,” she said, adding that she was teased as a child for being overweight.
She discussed how emotional suppression may stem from cultural norms, trauma, or learned behaviors. “This perpetuates the cycle of emotional reactivity,” Ferguson said. “My emotions went straight to anger,” she recalled. “I didn’t learn a healthy way to process those emotions,” she said.
To help identify and release trapped emotions, Ferguson demonstrated kinesiology, also known as muscle testing. With volunteer Shanna Alldredge at the front of the room, Ferguson applied pressure to Alldredge’s outstretched arm while asking a series of questions. The audience observed how her muscle strength varied with truthful versus untruthful answers. “Your body is telling me when you’re lying,” Ferguson said as the two laughed.
Ferguson also described other tools for identifying energetic blockages, including Reiki, chakra assessments, and sound therapy. “I’m a sound practitioner,” Ferguson said, and explained how she uses tuning forks to locate and release trapped energy. She told the story of a client whose ankle pain resolved after she worked with tuning forks on that area.
Throughout the event, Ferguson shared stories from her practice. “I love the work I do. I change people’s lives,” she said. Her goal, she noted, is to “release the weights that are weighing people down.”
“It's potent work. I’m here to heal,” Ferguson said of working with source energy. She emphasized that she always asks for permission before engaging with a client’s energy. While the process may seem simple, she said her ability has sharpened with experience. To those who may be skeptical, she added, people “cannot hide their energetic vibrations.”
