As you may know, gun violence is a public health epidemic in our country due for the most part to the indiscriminate availability of fi****ms. Also, gun violence is now the most common cause of death in children and young people. On Friday, September 27, 2024, Texas Doctors for Social Responsibility or TDSR hosted a Texas Gun Violence Prevention Forum (GVP) at the Texas Capitol in Austin to highlight the human cost of firearm violence in our State, to ask legislators to pass common-sense laws aimed to keep fi****ms from individuals at risk of harming themselves and others, and to educate the public on firearm safety storage particularly at home to keep them from children and teens. This Friday at 12 PM we are showing the recording of the first panel of this GVP forum entitled Gun Safety Education’s Role in Preventing Firearm Violence. Dr. Meredith Davenport, moderator of the panel will be at hand to answer questions during and after the presentation. Please join us and help spread the word.

TDSR would like to thank the in person and online attendees to our recent Texas Gun Violence Prevention Forum at the Capitol in Austin on September 27th. Also, our deepest thanks and appreciation to our speakers, sponsors and partners for their continued encouragement and support, and to our planning committee for their hard work and dedication which made this event a success. By being at our Texas house, the Capitol, we wanted to make a statement to the establishment and the next legislature that bipartisan common sense gun reform policies are urgently needed to save lives in our State. We also believe that this event was a solid step towards finding common purpose as a nation that needs to act on solutions instead of normalizing gun violence. The complete recording of the event will be available soon in our website www.texasdoctors.org and YouTube page.
