🚨 CMS MORATORIUM UPDATE | HOME HEALTH & HOSPICE 🚨

CHAP has shared clarification regarding the CMS nationwide 6-month moratorium announced May 13, 2026.

According to CHAP, this moratorium applies to **new Medicare enrollments** for Hospice and Home Health agencies. CHAP also noted that CMS has indicated this is a **time-limited enrollment restriction**, not a shutdown of existing providers.

What this means for existing agencies:

✅ Existing Medicare-enrolled Home Health and Hospice agencies are not automatically shut down.
✅ The moratorium does not automatically apply to every provider or every enrollment scenario.
✅ Certain applications submitted before the effective date may still be processed, depending on status.
✅ State licensure, Medicaid, and CHIP may be handled separately and may vary by state.

Agencies should continue monitoring CMS and accrediting organization updates, as guidance may continue to change.

🚨 CMS UPDATE | Effective May 13, 2026 🚨

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced a nationwide 6-month moratorium on NEW Medicare enrollments for Home Health Agencies and Hospice providers as part of a broader fraud prevention initiative. Existing providers are not affected.

CMS stated the temporary pause is intended to help combat fraud, waste, and abuse within high-risk provider categories while strengthening oversight and investigations.

✅ Current Medicare beneficiaries will continue receiving services from existing approved providers.
✅ Existing enrolled agencies may continue operations.
⚠️ New provider enrollments and some ownership changes are temporarily paused nationwide.

As healthcare regulations continue to evolve, staying informed matters. If you have questions about how CMS changes may impact you, your loved ones, or your healthcare organization, it’s always important to speak with a trusted licensed professional.

Late post, but definitely worth sharing!

I had such a great time attending the Medicare Mentors seminar. It was fun, informative, and such a great opportunity to learn, connect, and grow with others in the insurance industry.

I learned a lot, made some great connections, and I’m already looking forward to the next one. It always feels good knowing I’m staying ahead with education in this ever-changing insurance world, while also earning continuing education credits toward my license.

Always learning. Always growing. Always working to better serve my clients. 💙

Many families are surprised to learn that even with VA burial benefits, there can still be significant out-of-pocket funeral costs.

A VA national cemetery may cover items like the gravesite, opening and closing, headstone or marker, burial flag, and memorial certificate. But families may still be responsible for costs like the casket, funeral service, embalming, flowers, obituary, and printed programs.

That’s why planning ahead matters.
