To many people yesterday was a fun adventure full of costumes and candy.

For me, I was introduced to a new activity: Skeleton Bedazzling.

Yes, this is the coolest Halloween activity I have ever seen. And it kept the kids busy for hours!

Kudos to one of my friends who came up with this idea. Definitely stealing this for the future!

She even said it is becoming a family tradition!

So grateful to present on the very important topic of mental health in kids and teens today at the SACLP conference. The room was full and there were great questions! The more we talk about how we can support kids and teens with mental health concerns, the better this world will be!

Did you know that each of us can be part of the solution to improve mental health of our children? A simple thing we can all do is take the time to lend a listening ear to them.

Today is March 1st, which means we get to start celebrating Child Life Month! To all my fellow child life specialists and child life students out there, take some time for yourself because you rock!!!

We're going to be sharing more about what child life is and how it can help families and communities both in the medical world of hospitals and everywhere else! So make sure to follow along, you might be surprised at all the amazing things we do!

For those who are curious right now, the pictures are just little snippets of the child life here at Thriving Play. Not only do we provide medical education and support to children and teens of all ages, but we also teach parents how to raise their young ones through the ups and downs of childhood. And would you believe that sometimes the easiest way to learn even for adults is play? Our families work on developing better communication, coping strategies, and expectations of each other through board games and playing pretend!

For those who need the gentle reminder: Self-Care isn’t selfish. It is non-negotiable.

Recently I was talking with a parent about how to hold a boundary with a child. And the parent verbalized that boundary-holding is really hard because the child is so good at wearing down adults.

Raise your hand if you have a child (or teen) like this. 🙋🏿‍♀️🙋🏼‍♀️🙋🏾‍♂️

What to do? Let that young’n walk all over you?

Not if you can help it. And the first thing to do is to make sure you are taking care of yourself. Build up your defenses with self-care so you can stick to the boundaries that you set.

So start that bath water and take some time for yourself. You deserve it.
