About Cerebral Palsy
Cerebral palsy (CP) is a neurological condition that affects movement, muscle tone, and posture. It is caused by damage to the developing brain, usually before or during birth. CP is the most common motor disability in childhood.
Every person with CP experiences it differently, and people with CP live full, active lives while contributing to their communities, workplaces, and families.
Below is Mariah’s full contest entry.
Entry: Strength in Inclusion at Method Wellness
My name is Mariah Kilbourne. I am 37 years old, and I have spastic quadriplegic cerebral palsy.
My disability is an important part of who I am and how I experience the world, and I approach life with confidence and self-acceptance.
Since 2018, I have been part of the Method Wellness community, a place where inclusion is part of every day.
This photo shows me practicing yoga on the mat at Method Wellness with Dr. Sarah Eads, the owner of the studio, standing beside me and supporting my practice. My power wheelchair and walker is next to the mat, representing the tools that help me move through the world and participate fully.
Community and inclusion matter because everyone deserves a space where they can fully be themselves.
At Method Wellness, I get to be me. I am not defined by my disability — it is one part of me that shapes my perspective and the way I move through the world.
I am a friend, a yoga student, a photographer, and a Social Media Specialist who helps share our community with others.
I get to contribute like everyone else and be part of something meaningful. My experiences, including living with a disability, are respected and valued at Method Wellness.
We believe in each other and in everything that is possible.
This moment represents what inclusion looks like to me: support, encouragement, and a fun community that makes space for everyone to participate.
My hope is that all communities choose inclusion so everyone is welcomed, valued, and encouraged to participate fully.
Always be “Inclined for Inclusion.”
Thank you, Method Wellness family, for helping us celebrate Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month and for supporting our community.
