April is Alcohol Awareness Month, a time to focus on understanding the impact alcohol can have on physical and mental health. It’s also an important reminder that support is available and seeking help is a sign of strength.
Whether you or someone you care about is struggling, early recognition and connection to care can make a meaningful difference. This month, we encourage everyone to learn the signs, start conversations and support those who may be facing challenges.
You’re not alone. Support is here when you need it.
Weekend check-in: how are you taking care of your mental health this weekend?
Sometimes it's as simple as taking a break, getting outside, or giving yourself space to reset.

This initiative began in March, but its impact extends far beyond a single month.
🎨 mARTch Madness, but make it meaningful. 🧑🎨
This exhibition started with a simple idea. What inspires us and why? Through a bracket-style challenge using well-known works, participants voted, reflected, and then created something entirely their own. Not to copy, but to explore.
At Laurel Ridge Treatment Center, many of the individuals we serve, including members of the military community, are navigating heavy experiences and searching for hope. Art becomes a bridge when words feel out of reach. Through this process, we help facilitate expression, giving space for emotions to be seen, felt, and transformed into something meaningful.
Because the goal was never comparison. It was shifting that inner voice from “I can’t do that” to “what if I tried it my way?”
Every piece you see here is proof that inspiration can turn into action when we give ourselves permission to learn, experiment, and show up imperfectly.
A heartfelt thank you to Carolyn Dushane, Recreation Therapist, for bringing this vision to life and creating a space where healing and creativity can meet.
So now we’ll ask you the same thing we asked them:
What inspires you?

In recognition of Women’s History Month, we are proud to highlight the leadership and impact of Dr. Quiroga.
A San Antonio native, Dr. Quiroga completed her medical training and Psychiatry Residency at UT Health San Antonio, where she also served as Chief Resident. Throughout her time at Laurel Ridge, she has held several key leadership roles, including Director of Inpatient Services, Director of Veterans Services, Director of ECT & Neurostimulation Services, and Vice President of the Medical Staff.
Today, as Medical Director of ECT & Neurostimulation, Dr. Quiroga leads a highly specialized team focused on expanding access to advanced psychiatric treatments while also mentoring and training the next generation of clinicians. Her work continues to strengthen clinical quality and ensure patients have timely access to innovative care.
“Great leadership starts with truly listening and leading with compassion, then working collaboratively to find thoughtful, meaningful solutions that support both patients and your team.”
“To women entering healthcare leadership: trust your voice, lead with confidence and heart, and remember that your perspective is more valuable than you think.”
We are grateful for Dr. Quiroga’s leadership and the impact she continues to make across our organization and community.
