Our brains have a remarkable ability to learn and adapt by forming new connections through. Part of that process includes synaptic pruning and reorganization — where weaker, less useful connections are reduced so stronger, more efficient ones can grow.
This begins when we are young, but it does not stop there. It continues as we age.
There is an exchange happening in the brain: less efficient connections for better ones.
Scattered wiring for more refined pathways. Noise for clarity, wisdom, specialized skills, and understanding.
That exchange helps us refine our skills, sharpen our behavior, and specialize in ways that actually fit who we are — and even how we serve those around us.
In the same way, surrendering old ways of thinking — fear, doubt, limiting beliefs, reactive patterns — makes room for stronger, healthier neural pathways to develop. As certain circuits weaken from disuse, others strengthen through repetition and alignment. Over time, this is how mindsets shift.
This is how we become “unstuck.” This is how growth becomes sustainable.
But this isn’t about trying harder.
It’s not about forcing change.
It’s about giving way.
From a neuroscience perspective, reduced neural noise allows for better regulation and clearer signaling between the prefrontal cortex and emotional centers like the amygdala. From a spiritual perspective, surrender helps us to effectively receive God’s goodness and wisdom.
Romans 12:1
12 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.
Exodus 36:1
And Bezalel and Aholiab, and every gifted artisan in whom the Lord has put wisdom and understanding, to know how to do all manner of work for the service of the sanctuary,[a] shall do according to all that the Lordhas commanded.”
John 15
1 “I am the true grapevine, and my Father is the gardener. 2 He cuts off every branch of mine that doesn’t produce fruit, and he prunes the branches that do bear fruit so they will produce even more.
