What an honor to receive this recognition. One that I could not have achieved without the incredible support of our administrative team, our physicians, APPs, and every staff member who makes Texas NeuroSpine what it is.

This award is not about one person. It is a testament to what happens when people choose to believe in a vision, even when others underestimate them. When you have a dream and a goal in mind, you keep moving forward. You stay disciplined. You stay humble. And most importantly, you lead with humility so that those behind you, and those following in your footsteps, rise to the challenge beside you.

True leadership is servitude. The old belief of the lone egotistical neurosurgeon is fading away. The future of our profession depends on teamwork, collaboration, and mutual respect.

If we do not work together within our field, within our practices, and within our community, private practice as we know it will disappear. But when we choose unity, purpose, and humility, we build something stronger than ourselves.

I am grateful, honored, and motivated to continue serving. Thank you to everyone at TN Spine for making this journey possible. This award belongs to all of us.

Ten years ago, TN Spine was founded with a simple but bold belief: that we could build one of a kind neurosurgical group. One rooted in true partnership, humility, and the shared understanding that each of our neurosurgeons had the potential to accomplish extraordinary things while delivering exceptional care to every patient.

TN Spine began at the Galvan’s house, born from vision, grit, and the courage to take a chance on ourselves when the odds were stacked against us. We didn’t start with guarantees—we started with heart. We believed in who we were, in the character of our team, and in the mission we felt called to pursue.

Through perseverance, collaboration, and unwavering commitment, that small beginning grew into something remarkable.

Today, TN Spine stands as the largest private neurosurgery group in San Antonio.

We achieved this not because the path was easy, but because we refused to give up—despite every voice that said we wouldn’t make it. What was once only a dream has become a legacy of excellence, built patient by patient, surgeon by surgeon, and milestone by milestone.

Against all odds, we made it. And we are only getting started.

Dr Villarreal had the honor of speaking at Incarnate Word University today, sharing with college students what it truly means to be a neurosurgeon the path he took, the challenges, the sacrifices, and ultimately the passion that led him into this field.

He walked them through the reality of the journey such as the long nights, the demanding training, the discipline it takes, and the moments of purpose that make it all worth it. He also shared why he chose neurosurgery; to help patients in their most critical moments and to make a meaningful impact on their lives and families.

Grateful to UIW for the invitation and to these incredible students for their curiosity, engagement, and inspiring questions.

Here’s to the next generation of future healthcare leaders. 🧠

Dr. Garces joined our practice three years ago, bringing extraordinary expertise as a scoliosis specialist.
She is detailed, meticulous, and deeply committed to patient care. Since arriving in May 2023, she has integrated new technologies into the practice, engaged in meaningful research, and helped us expand the way we care for complex spine conditions.

She is also passionate about education and is actively exploring the development of a future fellowship program with our team.

Most importantly, we want to make sure she feels supported, valued, and empowered to continue doing the work she loves and to shape the future of spine care with us.

The future of spine surgery: healing backs without screws or metal implants.

Metal rods, screws and bone grafts have long been the backbone of spinal fusion surgeries — a fix for fractured spines, worn-out discs or bones that refuse to heal on their own. The hardware works. But it’s also rigid and invasive, and often leaves patients with lingering pain, stiffness and ...
