Consider one aspect essential for recovery. Willingness to go to any lengths. What does this mean? The founders of AA speak here to the willingness to take the 12 steps to have a spiritual experience. It shows up early though in all kinds of ways. Am I willing to take time for my recovery? Am I willing to make some hard changes? Am I willing to follow some guidance from others who have what I want, peace, stability, freedom from obsession? As we improve our physical health often the liar returns. What am I not willing to do in order to recover?

I was grateful to be able to speak about the value of encouraging someone to seek help for an addiction issue with KSAT 12 last night. I spoke to the issue of denial, how to identify if one has a problem and how to help a friend or loved one get the professional help they need. Of course they take a sound bite, but I'm grateful for the opportunity and look forward to more!

Here's what I know - many people can get well and get on the right path to healthy recovery from addiction without more hurdles and headaches. The reality of telehealth is here to stay and it can be extremely beneficial. Especially if they work with a professional who knows this world. Please share the word with a family member or friend who could benefit from such a program!

Experience is the thing of real value in life. We seek out others with experience we have not had ourselves in so many areas of our life. You or your loved one or friend should do the same for an addiction problem. Just as in seeking other services, unfortunately there are bad players out there or ignorant providers or incompetent providers. You should not have to stumble along in such a critical time. This is my hope with Foundations for Recovery - to help families navigate the complex world of seeking quality, professional help for their addiction problems.
