We know there is no way to replace what’s been lost.
Homes can be rebuilt, but the heartbreak of losing our children, family, and friends is immeasurable. Our hearts are with every soul grieving in the wake of the devastating floods across Texas.

While we can’t take away the pain, we hope to offer a small measure of comfort and security.
Devoted Care Hospice is personally donating and collecting additional donations of toiletries and gently used clothing to support displaced families.

If you feel moved to give, your kindness will help carry someone through unimaginable sorrow. 💛

🇺🇸 Happy 4th of July from Devoted Care Hospice 🇺🇸

Today, we honor the freedom that defines our nation, and the quiet strength of those who have fought hard for every moment of independence.

At Devoted Care Hospice, we know that freedom means different things to different people. For some, it’s the freedom to spend their final days in peace. For others, it’s the dignity of choosing comfort, love, and support surrounded by family. For all, it’s the freedom to choose.

As we celebrate America’s birthday with fireworks and flags, we also celebrate the quiet acts of courage we witness every day. To our patients, their families, our staff, and our community, THANK YOU for allowing us to walk beside you.❤️💙 May your day be filled with gratitude, grace, and the freedom to simply be.

On June 19, 1865, freedom finally reached the last enslaved people in Galveston, Texas—two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation.

Juneteenth is more than a celebration. It’s a reminder that justice delayed is still justice worth demanding—and that freedom, no matter how long it takes, is sacred.

At Devoted Care Hospice, we carry this truth forward:
That every life deserves dignity.
That every story matters.
And that showing up with compassion is a radical act of love.

Today, we honor the legacy of Juneteenth with gratitude, reflection, and the continued work of showing up for others in the ways that matter most.

They’ve cared for us. Now it’s our turn.

June is Elder Abuse Awareness Month—and it’s time we get loud.

Too many elders are suffering in silence.
Neglected. Exploited. Dismissed.

It’s not always bruises.
It’s being overmedicated.
It’s financial manipulation.
It’s ignored needs, untreated pain, or a voice that’s silenced because “they’re old.”

At Devoted Care Hospice, we don’t look away.
We report. We protect. We listen.

If you suspect abuse—speak up.
If you care for elders—check in.
If you’re a loved one—stay involved.

Because dignity shouldn’t expire with age.

Let’s talk about it. Let’s prevent it. Let’s honor our elders the way they deserve.

We get it—when people hear “hospice,” they panic.
They think it means we’re giving up.
But let us be clear:
We’re not giving up on you or your loved one.
We’re just done letting them suffer.

Hospice doesn’t stop the love, the care, or the fight.
It just shifts the focus—to comfort, to presence, to peace.

Sometimes, hospice is the first time someone actually feels seen—fully cared for, without all the poking, prodding, or pain.

Today we’ve already held a hand, fluffed a pillow, and helped someone watch the sunrise without pain.
That’s what Saturday looks like at Devoted Care.

And that’s more than enough.🫶

When dementia reaches its late stages, it’s not always clear when to make the shift to hospice care. Families may be exhausted, overwhelmed, and unsure what late stages of dementia even looks like.

Here are signs that hospice may now be the most appropriate path:

• Nonverbal or limited speech
• Inability to walk or sit upright without full assistance
• Total dependence for dressing, bathing, and eating
• Incontinence of bowel and bladder
• Minimal food intake or frequent choking
• Recurring infections, like UTIs or pneumonia
• Severe weight loss or visible muscle wasting
• Episodes of unresponsiveness or staring spells

If your loved one meets two or more of these criteria, they may qualify for hospice under Medicare guidelines for Alzheimer’s or dementia-related decline.

Hospice is not giving up. It’s a shift in focus—from fighting the disease to preserving quality of life.

At Devoted Care Hospice, we don’t just care for the patient—we support the entire family. You’ve already walked a hard road. Let us help carry this next part with compassion, clinical expertise, and 24/7 support.

This Memorial Day, we pause with reverence.

At Devoted Care Hospice, we honor the lives of those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation. Their courage echoes through every generation, and their memory lives on in the freedoms we cherish today.

May their legacy be our guiding light.

With gratitude and remembrance—

Short of Breath. Full of Questions
Many of the patients and families we serve at Devoted Care Hospice are living with Congestive Heart Failure (CHF)—a condition that takes a toll on the body, the spirit, and the entire care team at home.

It’s more than just swelling legs or gasping breaths. It’s the fatigue from walking across the room. The sleepless nights. The heart that just can’t keep up anymore.

So when is hospice the right step?

When is hospice appropriate for CHF?
Hospice becomes appropriate when the burden of treatment outweighs the benefit, or when symptoms persist despite optimal therapy. Clinical signs might include:
•Shortness of breath at rest or minimal exertion
•Multiple hospitalizations or ER visits for heart failure
•Inability to tolerate meds like beta blocker or diuretics
•Decline in functional ability or mobility
•Loss of appetite and unintended weight loss
•Advanced cardiac findings (low EF, high BNP, fluid overload, etc.)

In other words—when the heart is tired, and so is the person living with it—hospice steps in to provide comfort-focused care that reduces suffering and restores dignity.

What does hospice actually do for CHF?

We manage shortness of breath, fluid overload, chest discomfort, anxiety, and fatigue. We adjust medications to ease symptoms—not prolong suffering. We support the caregiver. We guide hard decisions. And most of all, we make sure no one walks this path alone.

If your heart is heavy with questions or seeking an honest conversation, our line is open.
We’re here to listen, explain, and walk with you.

Devoted to Compassion. Devoted to You.

Grief doesn’t follow a script.
It shows up in waves, in stillness, in memories that surface when you least expect them.
It’s messy, sacred, and personal.

But within every goodbye is a reminder:
You loved deeply. You showed up. You gave your heart. We know that loss is not the end of the story;
It’s the beginning of remembrance—of honoring, healing, and continuing the bond in a new way.

You don’t have to carry it alone. Whether it’s days, weeks, or years later, we’re here—walking with you through grief with compassion, comfort, and care that doesn’t end just because this journey has.

You were never alone. You never will be.
