We are devastated and horrified by the events of yesterday’s tragedy in Uvalde. Our hearts are with the victims’ families as we collectively mourn the inconceivable loss of 19 children and 2 adults, taken by senseless violence. The immeasurable pain these children and families are experiencing must be met with compassion, assistance and action. We want to extend our gratitude and support to the health care workers in Uvalde and San Antonio who were faced with the unimaginable and are still working to care for the victims of this heartbreaking tragedy.

This horrific event places even more of an emphasis on the need for trauma informed care and mental health care for all of us. As we work to address this need, resources are available for those who need them and opportunities to help are here:

Con Corazón San Antonio

Con Corazón is the brainchild of the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Board Chair, Dr. Erika Gonzalez. Con Corazón is a newly founded nonprofit in San Antonio, Texas addressing health inequities in addition to providing access to resources and educational materials on emergency preparedness for underprivileged communities.

San Antonio communities are here to help each other. We are all in this together and supporting & helping our neighbors keep our city resilient and safe. Con Corazón is here to address issues that are affecting the health of our community. What we saw during the 2019/2020 COVID-19 pandemic were ongoing issues of health inequities and lack of resources. We aim to solve some of those problems and keep the conversation of health equity open and active.

Con Corazón’s first two initiatives include encouraging almost 34,000 recovered COVID-19 (~10%) patients to donate plasma and continued distribution of food & supplies to families in need on the city’s south side of town -- an initiative started and supported by Folklores Coffee Shop.
