Last week, the Foundation team visited the University Health Simulation Center, a space where current and future health care professionals receive hands-on, real-life training.

We were thrilled to be joined by Brian Freeman, University Health’s vice president of capital improvement projects, and Turner Texas team members Mike Shook, Bill McDonnell, and Shermeka Hudson, who were there to present us with a generous $25,000 check to support the advancement of University Health’s mission.

Thank you, Turner Construction, for your continued generosity and partnership.

Today, we celebrated International Credit Union Day with our friends at Randolph Brooks Federal Credit Union (RBFCU)!

In honor of this global celebration, RBFCU’s Investment Group visited the University Health Women’s & Children’s Hospital to donate boxes filled with stuffed animals, toys, books and more, all collected through their annual office toy drive.

We’re so grateful for their generosity and continued partnership! Thank you, RBFCU, for spreading joy and fun to children and families at University Health! 💙

At University Health, pink isn’t just a color; it’s a call to action!

This week, our healthyUexpress mobile mammography bus drove up to Business Center I, bringing convenient, life-saving screenings right to our team members. Every destination this bus travels to helps more women across San Antonio and Bexar County access the care they deserve.

Through University Health Foundation, philanthropy will continue to anchor University Health’s commitment to providing access to care for all, and our generous donors have already helped us fund some incredible breast cancer initiatives. Whether it is funding for research or a free diagnostic for those without insurance, our efforts are helping with more early detections, more survivors and more hope.

Calling all coffee lovers! ☕💗

Our friends at The Human Bean are providing San Antonio area residents with the opportunity to satisfy their caffeine cravings and give back in a meaningful way!

On Friday, October 17, both The Human Bean of San Antonio FM 78 and The Human Bean Pat Booker Road, Universal City, TX are hosting their annual event. Stop by and grab a pink latte (or maybe two…we won’t judge 😋). All food and beverage proceeds on that day will be donated to University Health Foundation’s Women’s Health Fund.

Join in on the fun next week and enjoy some coffee for a great cause! .

The perfect Halloween starts with the perfect costume, and at University Health Halloween has officially arrived! 👻

If you spot Superman swooping into the cafeteria for a quick snack or Cinderella searching for her glass slipper in the waiting room, you can thank the Stay Strong Foundation, Inc 🦸👑

Last week, they donated more than 100 Halloween costumes to our Child Life team, and this was just the first of several drop-offs this season! Throughout October, our pediatric in-patients, their siblings and out-patients will get to pick out a costume they love so they can join in the fun.

Our friends at Stay Strong have gifted more than 1,500 costumes to date, and we’re truly grateful for their support for the fifth year in a row. 💙

So, tell us, who or what are you dressing up as this Halloween?

Recently, the San Antonio FOE Aerie #70 (FOE) presented us with a $17,000 check. During the presentation, we were honored to be joined by FOE members David and Veronica Williamson, Dr. John Calhoon, friends and FOE Board Members. The Williamsons have helped raise funds in memory of their son Wyatt who sadly passed away in 2007.

Since 2016, FOE has donated more than $70,000 to the University Health Foundation pediatric heart fund. Thank you, FOE and the Williamson Family, for continuing to make an impact on patients and families at University Health.

This is how University Health celebrates philanthropy! 💙

In this final week of Live Better 2025, our employee giving campaign, departments across University Health have come together in fun and meaningful ways to host creative fundraising events, with every dollar raised supporting University Health Foundation or the United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County.

From dunk tanks and jewelry sales to chili cook-offs, mini golf courses, book sales and more, our team members are showing their generosity, creativity and commitment to making a difference in our community.

Sometimes a little help can make all the difference. Through the generosity of our donors, University Health Foundation continues to open doors for University Health team members who are pursuing their educational dreams.

Eric Daniel Hernandez was a junior UTSA - The University of Texas at San Antonio pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering. In 2013, he sadly passed away. In honor of his memory, his family established the Eric Daniel Hernandez Memorial Scholarship to help University Health team members further their education. Each year, we, along with the Hernandez family, awards this scholarship to two full-time team members who are currently enrolled in college courses.

Please help us congratulate this year’s bright and talented scholarship recipient’s –– Evette Dominguez and Nadia Thomas, who are both seeking a bachelor’s in science of nursing!

In 2024, thanks to the generous support of our donors, the Foundation funded a da Vinci robotic surgical system making University Health the only transplant center in South Texas with access to this state-of-the-art medical tool.

In its inaugural year at our hospital, this robotic approach to transplant surgeries has provided better outcomes, shorter recovery times, and minimal complications for both kidney and liver transplant patients. As we continue to invest in cutting-edge technology at University Health, we are proud to witness the positive impact of our efforts.
