A Safer Holiday Starts with Awareness

Holiday travel often means long hours of sitting, disrupted routines, and added stress on your circulation. You do not have to do everything perfectly. You just need to be intentional. Simple steps like moving regularly, staying well hydrated, and wearing proper compression can significantly reduce your risk and help keep your legs healthy while you travel.

You don’t need to panic. You just need a plan.

🌲Move every hour: If you’re flying, stand up and walk the aisle about once an hour. If you’re driving, stop regularly to stretch and take a short walk.

🌲Do “seat exercises” on purpose: Roll your ankles, flex your calves, point and lift your toes. It looks small, but it keeps blood from pooling in the lower legs.

🌲Hydrate like it’s your job: Dehydration can thicken the blood and increase clot risk. Drink water before and during travel. Go easy on alcohol and caffeine since they can dry you out.

🌲Wear graduated compression stockings: These are stronger at the ankle and gradually lessen up the leg, helping push blood back toward the heart and reducing swelling.

🌲Don’t cross your legs: It can restrict circulation. Keep both feet flat on the floor when possible, or slightly elevated.

🌲Know your personal risk: Talk with your doctor before traveling if you’ve had recent surgery, are pregnant, take hormone therapy, or have a history of clotting issues. You may need extra precautions.

We wish you a very happy and healthy holiday season.

How Mental Health Affects Your Vein Health

🦵Your veins do more than carry blood. They respond to how you live, how you move, and yes, how you manage stress.

😩Stress does not cause vein disease, but it can absolutely make symptoms worse.

🩸When you are under chronic stress, your blood pressure rises. Higher pressure makes it harder for veins to move blood efficiently, especially in the legs where gravity is already working against circulation. Slower blood flow increases pressure inside the veins, worsening varicose veins and increasing the risk of complications like blood clots or slow-healing leg wounds.

🩵The good news is that small changes can make a meaningful difference.

Supporting Your Veins and Your Mental Well-Being
🌲Move Your Body
🌲Daily movement helps both your mind and your circulation. A 30-minute walk, bike ride, or light exercise that engages the calf muscles improves blood flow and reduces stress.

🌲Eat smaller, balanced meals help regulate weight and circulation. Diets high in salt and processed foods increase pressure in the veins.

🌲 Step away from work when you can. Elevating your legs at the end of the day helps calm the nervous system

🌲Use Compression When Needed. Reducing leg pain and swelling often improves daily comfort and overall mood.

🌲Long-term stress, depression, or persistent vein symptoms should not be ignored.

🩵A Whole-Person Approach to Vein Care
At Medical Vein Clinic, we look beyond surface symptoms. Vein disease affects how you move, how you feel, and how you live.

Our team focuses on education, personalized care, and advanced treatment options designed to help you get back to living comfortably and confidently.

This is one of our most watched short videos from our YouTube Channel (are you subscribed? https://www.youtube.com/). This little video is what we call an "exercise snack." Keeping your blood flowing and your veins healthy is not difficult, it does not require you to train for hours a day, to participate in intense cardio or HIIT workouts. It's as easy as calf raises and squats several times a day to keep the blood flowing.

You will move 90% of your blood when you flex your calf. That is significant!! Keep those legs moving over the holidays.

“What stands out about Dr. John Hogg is not just his expertise, but the intention behind everything he builds.” Katie Goodman , San Antonio Woman Magazine

In this episode of "To Your Health," Katie Goodman sits down with Dr. John Hogg, Founder of Medical Vein Clinic, to talk about the path that led him here, the philosophy behind his new spa-like clinic, and the deeper mission driving his work in San Antonio.

From investing in the most advanced imaging technology to creating an environment where patients feel calm, heard, and respected, Dr. Hogg has built Medical Vein Clinic around one core belief: better outcomes start with better care.

The conversation also highlights how specialized vein and pelvic venous treatments are changing lives for patients who have spent years without answers, especially women experiencing chronic pelvic pain that has long been overlooked or misunderstood.

This is more than a new clinic.
It’s a commitment to listening, precision medicine, and raising the standard of care for the San Antonio community.

Standing in the Kitchen

👩‍🍳 Spending hours cooking holiday magic? All that standing can be hard on your veins! When you stand for long periods, blood has to work against gravity to return to your heart. Take breaks, shift your weight, do calf raises while stirring, and elevate your legs afterward. Your veins deserve some holiday love too!
