Loran Hill

Loran Craig Hill, 78, passed away April 14, 2026, at his home in New Braunfels, Texas, following an extended illness. A Memorial Service and Remembrance of his life will be held April 25, 2026 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in San Antonio, Texas. Visitation at 12:30; Memorial Service at 1:00

A fifth generation Texan, whose family founded Hill County and the City of Hillsboro, Loran was born in Austin, Texas on November 12, 1947. He spent his childhood in Waco and was a member of the first class at Richfield High School He was looking forward to attending their upcoming 60th reunion.

Loran attended Abilene Christian College (now ACU) where he was partnered on the debate team with Carol Ford from Hialeah, Florida. The pairing was so successful that they recently celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary. They lived in Waco, where Loran graduated from Baylor University with a B.A. degree in Communications in 1972. That same year their son Charles Robert was born the week before Christmas.

Following graduation, Loran began his lifelong employment with the State of Texas, providing assistance and protection to the weak, sick, elderly folks who needed a helping hand. He worked first with the Department of Welfare, then the Health Department as a nursing home inspector, and finally serving as the Director of Long Term Care, Region 8 (San Antonio) with the Department of Health and Human Services until his retirement in 1998. He went on to earn a Master of Science degree in Environmental Management from Hardin Simmons University in Abilene, Texas.

Loran loved to travel and was making plans to visit Hawaii and Wisconsin to complete his goal of visiting all 50 states. He had an encyclopedic memory, especially for military history, planes and cars. As eclectic as his tastes were for politics and reading, his eating philosophy was narrow, believing that salads and vegetables were what real food ate. He loved to prepare and share hamburgers, spaghetti and barbecued ribs for family meals. Having thoughtful conversation and debate, especially with his grandchildren, was his most cherished pastimes.

He is survived by his wife Carol; son Charles Robert Hill (Michelle) and grandchildren Lauren and Hailey (San Antonio); sister Andria Hill (Austin) and her son Nathaniel Hill (Kadi) and their children Anora, Lily, Moses and Magdalene (Shreveport, LA); brother Rod Hill and his daughter Kirsti-rose (Denton); step-mother Wilma Smith Hill (Waco) and several cousins.

Preceding him in death are his parents Walter and Anne Hill and his grandparents Jack and Annie Mae Peters.

The family is deeply grateful for the excellent and supportive care and therapy provided by the professionals of the New Braunfels Regional Rehabilitation Hospital in-patient and outpatient departments and Enhabit Home Healthcare.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels, Local Animal Rescue Shelters or a charity of your choice.

A private interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Park. Loran will be laid to rest overlooking Randolph Field, near a railroad track, so that visitors who come to remember him can share his love for airplanes and trains.

Ruby V. Pectol

Ruby Vedagay (Gay) Havens Pectol, born on September 30, 1933, in Clyde, Texas, died on April 22, 2026, in San Antonio, Texas. Ruby married, Richard William (RW) Pectol, Jr., in September 12, 1953In 2007. She was asked by her daughter when she feels like a model of beauty, and she answered, "when I let my Christian light shine lighting paths of others in life's storm with kind, encouraging, gentle words and physical needs reflecting the light of Jesus Christ the Son, as the moon reflects the sun's light.

Education: 1950 High School Graduate of Knippa, Texas Student at Abilene Christian College in her childhood, Vedagay lived in various parts of Texas including Barksdale, Uvalde, and Knippa. At four years old, she learned to iron and helped her mother earn extra money for the family by taking in ironing. Vedagay's job as a farm girl was milking the cows, and she was a good student with the third highest marks in her graduating class from high school.

It was in Uvalde that Vedagay was baptized to have all her sins washed away by the blood of Christ. One of her last wishes was that the gospel be shared with any who would come to honor her or mourn her passing. Gay worked as a waitress while attending Abilene Christian College. She moved over 14 times in her married life with Richard, supporting him wherever he preached. Some of the places they lived are Saskatchewan, Canada: Kalispell, Montana; Show Low, Arizona; Winston-Salem, North Carolina; Claremore, Oklahoma; and Searcy, Arkansas. They lived in several Texas towns, including Fort Worth, Houston, Munday, Wichita Falls, and San Antonio. In San Antonio, Gay was a member of the Jefferson church of Christ and the San Pedro church of Christ. Through the years, Vedagay cared for and taught Tommy/Tom and Sylvia and other children about Jesus. In Oklahoma she and Richard hosted Gregor Mussler, an exchange student from Germany. Gay was also by Richard's side when he traveled and shared the gospel around the world. Those mission efforts took them on short and extended trips to Ukraine, Suriname, Puerto Rico, Europe, and other places. In Ruby's last years, relationships developed with caregivers who became dear friends. Those friends work at San Antonio's New Forest Haven Assisted Living in San Antonio, and they became family of the heart. Here is a final tribute from her daughter, Sylvia, "I'm glad you're my mama and that I got to start my life with you. I am forever grateful to you for teaching me about Jesus and for listening to me and loving me."Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her; Proverbs 31:28Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever. Psalm 23:6.

Ruby was preceded in Death by her parents, Ruddie and Gladys (D'Spain) Havens; husband, Richard William (RW) Pectol, Jr.; sisters, Ollie Halbert and Edith Frahm; brothers-in-law, nieces, and nephews; grandson; Jeffrey Lee Jinkerson, of Starkville, Mississippi

Reynaldo Navarro, Jr.

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Reynaldo Navarro Jr. on April 13, 2026. He was born on December 19th, 1977, a beloved husband, father, son, and friend, whose life was defined by love, laughter, and quiet strength.

A man of thoughtful spirit, he found joy in music, literature, arts, and philosophy. He was known for his sense of humor and lighthearted spirit. Rey was a natural jokester, someone who believes in laughing first while he faced challenges with resilience. Whether reflecting on life’s deeper questions, or sharing a favorite song, he carried a deep appreciation for the beauty and meaning woven into everyday life. His intellect and creativity shaped not only how he saw the world, but how he connected with those around him.

He proudly served in the military for seven years, from 2006 to 2013. His time included a tour with his unit 19K 1/3 Armored Cavalry Regiment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He also field trained military leaders that graduated from West Point that enhanced their leadership development to prepare them for battle. His service was a reflection of his commitment to something greater than himself—demonstrating courage, dedication, discipline, and honor.

Above all, he was a family man. A loving husband, he shared a bond built on trust, companionship, and enduring affection. As a father, he offered guidance, warmth, and unwavering support. He loved his children fiercely and found his life’s purpose in being a father. As a son, he carried deep respect and love for his family. He was also a loving and supportive friend, always ready to listen, encourage, and stand beside those he cared for. His kindness and loyalty created lasting friendships that will be cherished and remembered. His presence will be deeply missed, but his legacy of laughter, loyalty, and deep love will live on.

He is survived by his loving wife, Jenna; their sons, Dominic and Phoenix; father, Reynaldo Navarro Sr., and stepmother, Isabel; mother, Maria Urbano, and stepfather, Rick; sister, Kassandra, and nephew, Kaufman; grandmother, Lydia Salazar; parents-in-law, Roy and Patricia Garcia; and many loving uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends.
