If you nodded along to those signs, chances are you’re dealing with a pesky muscle knot.

Here’s the thing: a quick massage might feel good, but it usually won’t fix the problem. Muscle knots are often a sign of deeper imbalances in the body, and understanding the root cause is key to lasting relief.

So what’s really happening beneath the surface? And how can you actually treat them?

We break it all down in our latest blog: https://www.aloemeintegrativehealth.com/post/what-is-a-muscle-knot-understanding-the-anatomy-causes-and-solutions

So happy to hear this! Stories like Alonso’s are exactly why I love what I do. Acupuncture can be such a powerful support for things like carpal tunnel, helping the body find balance, reduce inflammation, and restore natural function. I’m beyond grateful you trusted the process and that you’re finally feeling like yourself again.

“Is acupuncture just the placebo effect?”

It’s one of the most common questions I get asked, and the answer is far more fascinating (and empowering) than a simple yes or no.

As an acupuncturist in San Antonio, I’ve seen firsthand how this ancient medicine supports real, measurable healing, from chronic pain and anxiety to fertility and digestion. But what is the role of belief in healing? Can science and tradition coexist?

This conversation goes deeper than myth-busting, it’s about reclaiming your role in your own health.

If this topic intrigues you (or if you’ve ever been curious about what makes acupuncture actually work), I dive into it more in the latest blog. 💭

Why You Should Be Eating Warm Spices in the Summer (Yep, Even Now ☀️)
It might sound backwards, but Traditional Chinese Medicine says summer is actually the time to lean into warming herbs like ginger, cinnamon & cardamom. Here’s why:

🔥 Summer is the most yang season - hot, active, and outward.
🥶 But too much cold food, iced drinks, or raw meals can actually weaken your digestion this time of year.
😣 That can lead to bloating, fatigue, and even... digestive drama.

🌿 Warming spices gently support your Spleen and Stomach, helping your digestion stay strong and cool down the body in a balanced way.
🧘‍♀️ Bonus: protecting your yang now helps your body store energy for the colder months, meaning fewer sick days this winter.

So yes, summer is still spice season. Just maybe skip the PSL for now. 😉

That headache at the back of your neck?
It might not be just stress or screen time, it could be your shoulders asking for help. 👀

When tension builds in your upper back, shoulders, and neck, it doesn’t always stay there.
Muscles like the trapezius and levator scapulae connect your upper body to your head, and when they’re tight or strained, they can:

🌀 Trigger muscle spasms
🚫 Restrict blood flow to the back of your head
⚡ Irritate nearby nerve endings
📍 Create painful myofascial trigger points

The result? Tension headaches that start in your neck and wrap around your head, also known as cervicogenic headaches.

✨The good news?
A targeted massage can release that tension, improve circulation, and ease the pain.

Taking care of yourself is the first step.

If you’ve ever dealt with chronic pain or bounced back from an injury, you’ve probably heard the terms acupuncture and dry needling thrown around.

They might sound similar, and both involve thin, sterile needles, but the techniques, training, and philosophies behind them couldn’t be more different.

In our latest blog, San Antonio-based acupuncturist and integrative specialist Dr. Turner-Parker explains the key differences so you can make the most informed decision for your health and healing.

“Are those bruises on your back?”
Not exactly. What you’re seeing are cupping marks, and they’re actually a sign that your body is responding to treatment.

Unlike bruises, which result from trauma that damages blood vessels and causes pain, cupping marks are created by suction. That suction pulls stagnant blood, lymph, and cellular waste to the surface, where your body can process and eliminate them.

These marks may look scary, but they’re typically painless, fade within a few days, and signal that circulation and detoxification are being activated.

🔥 Cupping helps relieve muscle tension and improve blood flow by drawing out what’s stuck beneath the surface.
💡 The color of the marks tells a story — from dark purple to red to light pink, they all can reveal different things about your body at the time.
⏳ They don’t last forever — marks typically fade within a few days to a week.

So the next time you see those round marks?
Know they’re not damage, but rather, signs of deep, therapeutic work in action.

You’ve just had a treatment — now what?

What you do after acupuncture or deep tissue work can make a huge difference in how you feel (and how long the benefits last).

Here’s how to support your body’s healing process:

💧 Hydrate:
Massage and acupuncture can help move toxins and metabolic waste out of your tissues. Water helps flush them away and keeps muscles supple.

🚶‍♀️ Gentle Movement:
Light stretching or a relaxed walk can encourage circulation without overloading your body. Skip the intense workouts for 24 hours if you can.

🛌 Rest if Needed:
Healing continues after your session. Fatigue is normal, it’s a sign your body is repairing. Rest, nap, or go to bed early.

🍽️ Eat Nourishing Foods:
Focus on clean, nutrient-rich meals (think veggies, lean proteins, whole grains) to give your body the building blocks it needs to repair and rebalance.

🚫 Avoid Alcohol & Heavy Stimulants:
These can tax your liver and slow your body’s natural healing processes. Stick to water, herbal teas, and gentle nourishment instead.

🧘 Stay Mindful:
Notice any shifts in your body or emotions over the next 24–48 hours. Healing isn’t always linear, sometimes soreness or emotional releases are part of the process.

✨ Remember: Acupuncture and massage are powerful tools to realign your system. Give your body the care it deserves after your session.

Don’t let allergies crash your Fiesta fun!

Clear sinuses, calm breathing, zero allergy headaches, it’s possible with the right approach.

Here’s how an integrative approach can help you find real, lasting relief:

1️⃣ Acupuncture: Helps calm your immune system and reduce inflammation that triggers symptoms.

2️⃣ Herbal Support: Natural options like stinging nettle and butterbur can balance histamine levels (without the drowsiness).

3️⃣ Nutrient Boosts: Vitamin C, quercetin, and bromelain are powerhouse nutrients that naturally lower allergy-related inflammation.

4️⃣ Stress Management: High stress = higher histamine levels. Breathwork, mindfulness, and massage can make a real difference.

5️⃣ Detox Support: Gentle practices (like lymphatic massage, hydration, and trace minerals) can help your body clear allergens more efficiently.

✨ The goal isn’t just symptom relief, it’s helping your body respond better, long-term.

Aloe Me (Allow Me)

We founded this company to create a worldwide platform connecting people that share these common interests; self care and holistic health. We empower you through education and experiences, based on the principle, "when you start with healing yourself, then you can heal the world."

Aloe Me is a play on the words for allow me. Allow me to be open; allow me to love; allow me to discover myself. Ultimately, Allow Me to help you. Aloe is a beautiful plant that is primarily grown in the southwestern part of the United States where we are from.

Allie was born and raised in Southern Arizona and Nikki from Texas, where aloe plants were used daily for any skin issues and digestive challenges that occur. This plant has so many medicinal properties we realized naming the company after Aloe is a great way to represent our Holistic Health Tribe as a symbol of health and empowerment.
