Only two more sessions this year of Working With Difficult Emotions!!
FREE Online Friday Sessions Dec 13, Dec 20 - Noon EST /9AM PST

This Friday (Dec 13) we will be engaging in a practice designed to help you "Let it Go." Having difficult emotions can be challenging, particularly when they hang out longer than they are useful. When you've already taken all the actions you can to shift things for the better, these pesky difficult emotions may still want to hang on.

Let's let it go together!

Hey Friends! I need your input - What do you want in 2025?
I usually teach a 12 week class on behavior change, for the new year, but this year feels different. If you have ever taken any of my classes (or wanted to) CHIME IN BELOW in the one question survey. ✅

Hey you. 🙂 Have you been experiencing some strong emotions lately? 😬 Having emotions is part of the human experience. But sometimes we can be overcome with difficult emotions and they can interfere with our daily tasks and overall wellbeing.

It's important to feel all of your emotions, even the difficult ones.

In this week's Working with Difficult Emotions free session we will be naming and visualizing the difficult emotions in our bodies and then using a compassionate breathing technique to move them around. Often this can help us to understand that emotions are not permanent, but they are always shifting and moving.

This is a trauma-informed space, so there are no requirements to share or to have your camera on.

There is this idea in western culture that we are supposed to control our emotions. But in fact, that can be a very difficult task. What is more important is that we control our response to our emotions.

Let me explain. We do have the ability to control our emotions sometimes. For instance, we can force ourselves to think of a joyful occasion and we can conjure up some pleasant feelings. But when it comes to difficult emotions, it can feel like they are unwelcome guests, they can sweep us away and take us for a ride.

We are going to have difficult emotions. That's just part of being human. In fact, difficult emotions can be very appropriate, and can help us craft a better way forward.

But sometimes it feels like they are never goign to leave us, and we will be stuck in a difficult emotion forever. This is when your emotions can lead to responses that don't serve you, like yelling, or making a rash decision, or saying something you regret, or even harming yourself.

So, it's super helpful to have some tools when we get in this state (and we all get in this state from time to time).

In the Free Friday - Working with Difficult Emotions Session we will learn and practice the fastest way I know how to get out of fight-or-flight.

Up down, joy, grief, beauty, fear, I am experiencing a range of emotions. 😀🥹😣😡😭🥲🙃

This is my first week back in Asheville after having been displaced for a month and the reentry process has not been easy.
I finally unburied myself from all of the stuff that came from being on the road for a month plus supplies and water. I'm happy to report that you can see in my kitchen counters now. It took a few days being in the state of overwhelm to be able to tackle it all, but I think I'm on the other side.

The weather here In Asheville is absolutely amazing, the trees are gorgeous, the birds are singing, and there's also a slight haze over the city that was not there before and in some areas it's so thick that you can feel the grit on your teeth. The silt from the flowing water is in the air and creates the feeling of oppression within me.

So I'm riding the waves of emotions, up and down, the election, the divisiveness, dressing up for Halloween, seeing the joy of children, the devastation that is around every corner in my city, it's all there together.

I'm not a particularly anxious person by nature. But what I feel right now is the type of anxiety that is a pressure in your chest, where I can feel the collective grief.

One of the ways I've always healed myself and brought myself through difficult times is by taking what I know and helping others. So if you've read this far and you also are experiencing some challenging emotions, let's hang out.

I'm creating a space every Friday at noon Eastern for everyone to come together and do a bit of practice around how to work with difficult emotions.

Because the election is coming up this week, one of my primary difficult to emotions is spurred by uncertainty, fear. This particular emotion easily sets off the fight or flight response.

So this week we're going to be focusing on the absolutely fastest way that I know (research-based tools) to calm your nervous system. It's quick and it's easy, but you actually HAVE TO DO IT, so why not show up in a group of people who are also aiming to do the same thing?

The world is a challenging place right now. If you are like me, you might be experiencing some painful and challenging emotions.

You don't need to go through it by yourself. You can join us on Fridays to explore, process, and heal in community.

EVERYONE is welcome.
