He has served as Chief of Plastic Surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center and as the Director of the Plastic Surgery training program at the Health Center. Dr. Nastala is also board certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Dr. Nastala's skill and experience in breast reconstruction and microsurgery bring a unique experience to our patients, allowing him to offer the full range of reconstruction options to our patients. His knowledge and experience have led him to lecture on the latest techniques available for breast lift, short scar breast reduction, and skin sparing breast reconstruction techniques. After earning his M.D. from UT Health Science Center-Southwestern Medical School, he honed his skills through extensive training, including surgery in Buffalo and plastic surgery in Houston.

Dr. Gassman joined the PRMA team in January 2021. He is a board-certified plastic surgeon and surgeon. Dr. Gassman earned his medical degree from School of Medicine in Maywood, Illinois. He completed his plastic and residency at David Geffen School of Medicine in Angeles, and a general surgery residency, as Chief of Surgical Resident Education, at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood Illinois. Following his residency, Dr. Gassman completed his fellowship in breast and reconstructive , with a subspecialty in facial reanimation at UTSW Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in , .

Dr. Gassman's clinical research interests include pain reduction after breast reconstruction, pathway after complex reconstruction, and multi and perforator free flap reconstruction. Dr. Gassman’s also has a passion for teaching and has spent many years as an associate professor teaching future plastic surgeons advanced breast reconstruction techniques.

Our Story

Dr. Nastala grew up in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where he developed his love for art, music, and science that ultimately led to his career choice in plastic surgery. His academic achievements earned him admission to Harvard University where he graduated Magna Cum Laude, completing a thesis in biochemical sciences. Though he studied music, played piano and was captain of the Harvard golf team, his passion was science and research. Through his summer work in the cardiovascular laboratories he developed his skills and a keen interest in surgery. He entered Duke University Medical School, which offered a unique opportunity to pursue surgical research during medical school, and allowed him to present internationally in Stockholm on immunology and virology.

His post-graduate training took him to The University of Pittsburgh to complete a nine-year training program in Surgery, Surgical Oncology Research and a Plastic Surgical Fellowship. Specializing in Reconstructive Microsurgery, Dr Nastala achieved numerous teaching awards including the Charles C Moore teaching award by the senior class.

Dr Nastala moved to Texas in 1998 to join the faculty of University of Texas at the San Antonio Health Science Center. He served the community by providing microsurgical reconstruction to trauma victims all over South Texas, achieved national accreditation for the plastic surgical training program, mentored residents, and ultimately became both the residency director and head of plastic surgery, with responsibility for teaching, research, and administration. By developing the breast reconstruction program, he focused his interest on breast cancer care.
