Have you heard of Zinnia TV?

Zinnia TV is a new network designed for people living with dementia. Dementia of all kinds often devolve into hallucinations and confusion for the person living with the disease. Television, while for most, can be a pleasant and relaxing escape, can sometimes be an overstimulating experience for our patients.

The Zinnia TV streaming service offers a library of over 200 research-driven videos designed for individuals with dementia, rather than multiple separate series. These videos are organized into various channels, or categories, like Nature, Animals, Quizzes, and Travel, rather than distinct TV shows.

Meet Simbi, who takes time to share her reflections on caregiving:

"Working with our clients has given me a deeper reflection on life and has made me reevaluate why I choose to do what I do. I have grown to see life through our clients' eyes and meet them at their needs while acknowledging what they've been through to get there. I know I will one day be their age and would love to have a compassionate caregiver work with me, be it a family member or hired. It's just the normal stages of life, and I pray we all get better care during our dire moments."

At our recent meeting, our partners at Gym Guyz joined us to lead a hands-on session on mobility exercises that caregivers can practice alongside our patients helping promote strength, comfort, and connection through movement.

We had the pleasure of attending the ReCollections event at the San Antonio Museum of Art last week. This program invites people living with Alzheimer’s and dementia to connect through art, first by discussing a featured piece, then by creating their own artwork using similar techniques. Moments like these remind us how creativity can spark joy and connection at every stage of life!
