Welcome to Riverwalk Yoga of San Antonio! After an introduction to yoga in college, I returned to practice several years ago. In the fall of 2014, I embarked on a journey to become a yoga teacher. This was a journey for me to understand yoga at a deeper level, and to enhance my personal practice. At the time, I did not plan on actually teaching. Then something called to me during my studies….and I needed to share what I had learned. I completed my training program in May 2015, and began teaching yoga. I currently teach Hatha, Hatha Flow, and restorative yoga. Having studied the history of yoga and immersed myself in the modern practice of yoga, I have come to believe that one of the most important aspects to the study and practice of yoga is the relationship between teacher and student. More importantly, this teacher and student focus allows for the evolution of an individualized yoga experience most beneficial to the student. For this reason, I encourage yoga instruction focusing on private sessions, sessions for couples, and small groups. I offer my students the opportunity to experience yoga as it was originally meant to be, with the emphasis on the teacher and student relationship and each individual student’s unique needs. I do not teach in studios. I seek the most unique and meaningful opportunities to teach yoga that I can find. Most importantly, I meet the student where they are and offer to them paths of self-discovery. Going forward, I plan to focus my yoga study on the traditions of Viniyoga. I have found Viniyoga to be the most engaging and personally fulfilling of the yoga lineages for me. What Is Viniyoga? Viniyoga is the appropriate application of the tools of yoga that implies differentiation, adaptation, and appropriate application to the unique condition, needs and interests of each individual. Viniyoga offers each practitioner the tools to individualize and actualize the process of self-discovery and personal transformation. This is the approach to yoga developed by Gary Kraftsow, MA, E-RYT 500, and which evolved from the teachings transmitted by T. Krishnamacharya and T.K.V. Desikachar of Madras, India.
