Our Story
Having worked in the addictions field for over 30 years Rich Whitman found out that retirement was not for someone who was called to serve. At the convincing of many, he and his partner Emily Hartman decided to do what we they do best, help people find help. The process of intervention is one of those ways. Rich first started doing interventions in the early 80’s. He was the blessed to be trained by Dr. Vernon Johnson who was considered by many to be the father of the process. His book, I’ll quit tomorrow gave families and professionals a guide how to help those who didn’t want help. There are new companies popping up all over the web and Facebook telling people to call them. There are thousands of people with certificates that say “I’m an interventionist”, few with 30 years of experience. There are many techniques/models on how to go about an intervention. The process has developed over the years.
Preparation is key to a successful intervention. The families own recovery is as important as the addicts. If the family doesn’t engage in their own recovery their focus will remain on the addicts. Thus enabling simply continues. “When a family, loved ones, friends and employers end the enabling the addiction has little chance of survival.” Because we feel this is so important we have developed a Family Support Program that helps each family to not only recognize when things might be headed in the wrong direction but as importantly to know how to take care of you and assure your own piece of mind. Relapse can and does happen, it happens far less when a family is part of the recovery process.
