3/21 is officially recognized as World Down Syndrome Day. The 21st of March was picked to honor and signify the 3 copies of the 21st chromosome that results in Down syndrome.

Please join us in raising awareness, and advocating for the rights and inclusion of people with Down syndrome. Today and every day, we celebrate the unique contributions those with Down syndrome make to our communities.

Today we’re celebrating World Down Syndrome Day, a day for raising awareness about Down Syndrome worldwide! One way that people spread awareness on WDSD is by wearing mismatched or crazy socks that’ll catch people’s attention and start a conversation!
“Down syndrome (or Trisomy 21) is a naturally occurring chromosomal arrangement that has always been a part of the human condition, being universally present across racial, gender, or socioeconomic lines in approximately 1 in 800 live births, although there is considerable variation worldwide.
Down syndrome usually causes varying degrees of intellectual and physical disability and associated medical issues.” (definition taken from the WDSD website)..
