This February, The Center honors Dr. Solomon Carter Fuller, a trailblazing psychiatrist and neurologist whose work shaped modern mental health care. As the first Black psychiatrist in the U.S., he made groundbreaking contributions to Alzheimer’s disease research, working alongside Alois Alzheimer to study the neurological basis of dementia.

Dr. Fuller also played a crucial role in understanding the impact of trauma and mental illness in Black communities, advocating for better mental health services and increased diversity in the medical field. As a professor at Boston University, he mentored future Black physicians, ensuring his legacy lived on through generations of mental health professionals.

At The Center, we carry forward Dr. Fuller’s commitment to accessible, person-centered mental health care. If you or a loved one need support, visit https://vist.ly/3mvc8rh or call 210-261-CHCS to learn more. 💙🧠
