EVO ICL hosted a great weekend conference in Austin, Texas at the Fairmont hotel. Dr. Nader Iskander and Dr. Fred Mattiolli were honored for their contributions implanting in excess of 500 lenses since the EVO ICL was approved in March 25, 2022. Dr. Mattiolli is a friend and colleague who practices at Mattiolli Vision Professionals in Houston. Congratulations to them and other ophthalmologists that were recognized tonight from all of North America. We also recognize our supporter, Dr. Scott Barnes, who is the chief medical director of STAAR Surgical.
To be clear, the ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens) has been around since 1997 in Europe and Canada. Dr. Iskander completed his fellowship-training, in Canada, with Dr. Howard Gimbel in 1999, and this ICL lens later debuted in 2005, in the USA.
What is unique about EVO ICL? It corrects nearsightedness (-3.0 to -20 diopters) without removing corneal tissue. This reversible, 10 minute procedure offers next-day recovery, high patient satisfaction, and treats high myopia (nearsightedness), making it an excellent, non-dry-eye alternative to LASIK for thin corneas.
