Words cannot express the love and gratitude that I have for these two. They both embody what it means to be parents. What it means to be a mom and dad.
Almost a year ago I started dialysis, while I was in the hospital. Ironically at that same time I was listed at the University’s Transplant Program. We knew this moment was coming but we thought I’d have more time.
I had to make a decision, go sit in a clinic 3/week for several hours or learn to do dialysis at home for 2:30hrs. I was scared, I was lost, and I was hopeless. But with the push of my doctors and the push of my parents we made a decision. My mom and I would learn to do it at home.
We arrive to the first month long training session and we see the machine and all the tubbing. We were both intimidated but not once did my mom scare away from the process. She was curious, she asked questions, she read the manuals, she learned the machine, and became my helper.
We both learned the process. My dad as well. My mom being one of my biggest supporters. Helping me every day, sometimes up to 6 times a week. She doesn’t know this but she’s on of my biggest hero’s. Without her help I would not be here today. Thank you mother for everything you do. My words cannot thank you enough.
I hope you’ve made it this far, because this is where I share the part about my second hero my dad, and trust me it’s about to get good.
Since the beginning my dad has said he was going to be my donor. Well due to some medical concerns the University Transplant, they were hesitant to consider him. Well in May we both got evaluated by the Methodist Transplant Program. We found a program willing to accept him, he’s gone through rounds and rounds of test and this Wednesday will be the last round of testing. God willing everything turns out great. I mean he’s already a perfect match, we just have to confirm a few more things.
I can’t being to think of ways to thank or repay my parents but with love and appreciation. The sacrifices they’ve made.
I’d like to thank you for reading this through. I’d like to thank friends and family, that have been there for me, praying for me. But I’d like to thank them the most. Thank you. 💙
