Black Breastfeeding Week: August 25–31, 2025
Boots on the Ground: Rooted in Breastfeeding Success, Grounded in Community Support

This week is about celebrating the strength, resilience, and dedication of Black families and the communities that surround them. “Boots on the Ground” reminds us that real change grows from within the community, through trusted support, shared resources, and spaces where families feel seen, safe, and supported.

We stand in solidarity with the parents, birth workers, and advocates who have been doing this work long before it was recognized. Together, we can:

Lift up local voices that lead the way in lactation support and education.
Normalize conversations about breastfeeding in Black communities and break down generational barriers.
Push for systems and policies that make breastfeeding accessible and equitable for every family.
Celebrate the wins! Every latch, every ounce of confidence, every milestone achieved with support and love.

This week, and every week, we honor the power of community!

🌸 AANHPI Breastfeeding Week 🌸
Theme: Diverse Voices, One Vision

This week, we honor the vibrant tapestry of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander cultures, each with unique breastfeeding stories, traditions, and strengths. “Diverse Voices, One Vision” reminds us that while our experiences vary, our shared hope is to support healthy, empowered families across these communities.

At Alamo City Breastfeeding, we’re here to stand beside AANHPI families with thoughtful, respectful, and accessible care.

We value learning about cultural traditions and experiences directly from the people who live them, grounding our care in empathy and understanding.

Let’s celebrate, elevate, and support AANHPI parents together, weaving diverse stories into one vision of thriving communities.

🌿 Indigenous Milk Medicine Week 2025🌿
Theme: Unapologetically Indigenous: Love, Landback, and Liberation

This week honors the deep, generational connection between Indigenous communities, breastfeeding, and traditional feeding practices. Breastfeeding is more than nutrition. It’s an act of cultural preservation, a form of resistance, and a path toward healing.

Love 💛 Centering care that respects Indigenous identity, traditions, and wisdom.
Landback🌎 Recognizing that access to land, water, and traditional foods strengthens community health and breastfeeding practices.
Liberation✊🏽 Supporting the sovereignty and self-determination of Indigenous peoples in maternal and infant health.

At Bayou City Breastfeeding, we stand in solidarity by:
🤝 Listening to Indigenous voices and respecting traditional knowledge.
📚 Sharing resources from Indigenous-led organizations.
💬 Creating space for culturally safe lactation support.
💖 Advocating for equitable access to care for all Indigenous parents.

True support means following the lead of Indigenous leaders, amplifying their voices, and honoring the sacred relationship between milk, land, and community. Check out their website for this weeks events and activities! Don't forget to get your coloring pages!

🌸 August is National Breastfeeding Month! 🌸
And we’re kicking it off with World Breastfeeding Week (August 1–7), celebrating this year’s global theme: "Prioritise Breastfeeding: Create Sustainable Support Systems."

This month, we also honor the U.S. National Breastfeeding Month theme: "Forward Together."

These themes go hand in hand, reminding us that breastfeeding support works best when it’s consistent, connected, and rooted in community. Parents shouldn't feel like they have to figure out breastfeeding by themselves. It takes all of us, families, providers, workplaces, and systems moving forward together.

At Bayou City Breastfeeding, we’re committed to being part of that support system, whether it’s helping a parent through a tough latch, collaborating with local partners, or offering grant-funded visits for those without insurance.

Let’s build a culture where breastfeeding is protected, promoted, and sustained for everyone. 💛

👅 Could it be a tongue tie?
Swipe through to learn 5 signs that might point to one 👇

✨ Sore ni***es that don’t improve
✨ Clicking or smacking sounds while feeding
✨ Milk leaking out of baby’s mouth
✨ Low tongue posture (tongue rests on the floor of the mouth)
✨ Weight gain concerns despite frequent feeding

If you’re noticing any of these, you're not alone—and you're not doing anything wrong. A tongue tie might be making feeding harder than it needs to be.

💬 Chat with an IBCLC who can assess your baby’s latch and oral function. You deserve answers and support that actually help!

Our IBCLCs are trained to really *see* your baby and notice things about them that might be pointing us toward answers for your infant feeding concerns. One of those things is body tension! You probably notice these things about your baby as well, but you might not know what they mean. If you notice any of these signs, talk to your IBCLC about if body work would be right for your baby! We can help you find a trusted bodyworker or connect you with our amazing in-house chiropractors!
